Earlier this week, the agency embraced spirit of Pride Month with a vibrant lunchtime bingo event filled with celebration, colour and friendly competition. Colleagues from across the agency came together to connect, have fun and show their support for the LGBTQIA+ community.

We’re proud to have raised over $200 for the FREEDOM Centre, a not-for-profit supporting LGBTQIA+ young people across Perth and regional WA.

As a values-based organisation, we believe meaningful change happens when we show up with purpose.

We are committed to empowering the theme of National Reconciliation Week 2026 – All In. It is a call for all Australians to show up wholeheartedly for reconciliation, not just throughout this week of recognition, but every day.

We were pleased to formally launch the new Approved Permanent Impairment Assessor Standards of Practice (Standards) and updated Guidelines for the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (Guidelines) this morning, to a full house of Western Australian APIAs.

Those in attendance had the opportunity to hear from WorkCover WA’s Rebecca Harris, Kevin Gillingham and Rob Parkes, along with a valuable guest presentation from Dr. Steven Overmeire, who shared insights on the practical impacts of these publications from an APIA perspective.

Developed through consultation and informed by contemporary practice, the Standards clarify what good looks like in permanent impairment assessments, supporting consistency, transparency and confidence for APIAs and other stakeholders across the scheme.

Both the Standards and revised Guidelines are now available on our website >>> https://bit.ly/WorkCoverWA-APIA

Managing a workplace injury can be challenging, and having access to the right information can make all the difference.

Our newly developed Employer Essentials – Injury Management Systems and the Claims Process fact sheet explains:
· injury management obligations
· what to do when a claim is received
· key steps and timeframes throughout the claims process.

Designed to help employers meet their legal obligations and support injured workers to achieve a safe and healthy return to work, this fact sheet complements our existing Employer Essentials – Insurance fact sheet.

You can download both fact sheets from our website >>> https://bit.ly/49T3wG2

Regional visits are a key part of how we stay connected, informed, and accessible, ensuring stakeholders across WA have equal opportunities to engage, ask questions, and build capability – regardless of distance.

Yesterday, our Inspectors were in Albany, conducting regional compliance checks and delivering a tailored education session for local insurance brokers.

Representatives from six Southwest brokerages came together to discuss regulatory expectations, share insights, and strengthen their understanding of the workers compensation scheme. This reflects the region’s genuine commitment to collaboration, and the prioritisation of best practice outcomes.

Strong regional relationships are essential to an effective scheme, and we remain committed to supporting our stakeholders across WA.

Workers compensation insurance is a legal obligation for every employer.

When an employer fails to obtain or maintain insurance – they are financially benefitting in the short term without paying premiums. However, they are also exposing their workers and their business to significant risk in the event an injury occurs.

WorkCover WA prosecutes serious non-compliance and recovers the ‘avoided premium’ which should have been paid in the uninsured period.

During the last quarter we recovered over $150,000 in avoided premium, which was paid back into the scheme.
