Last night's training night was a change from the 'ordinary'.

Our Breathing Apparatus wearers had to do their 6monthly wear to keep their currency & we decided to involve the rest of the brigade in a 'search & rescue' drill, using training dummies.

We exposed our external wearers to what's involved in an internal search, & the rest of our members in how they could best support our wearers when needed.

You may be aware that, for the last TEN YEARS the Shepparton East CFA has had members competing in the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb each September, raising money for Lifeline, PeterMac Cancer Foundation & 000Foundation.

This year the 3 members of our climbing team are running a few events to raise as much as possible to celebrate Emily's 10th climb.

To kick events off, we have our Music Bingo night on Friday July 17th.

A message to the Shepparton East community- except the person/s that ate all of our blue Mentos.

Over the last few weeks, brigades in our area, as well as ourselves, have been called to a few unregistered burnoffs.

Ensure your burn-off is registered and the conditions are suitable before lighting up 🔥

The quickest and easiest way to register your burn-off is by using the Fire Permits Victoria website at www.firepermits.vic.gov.au/notify

If for any reason you are unable to plan ahead and need to start your burn-off immediately (within 2 hours), you can register by calling 1800 668 511 - however early planning, and online registration is preferred.

Before you notify us, make sure you:
🔥Follow regulations or laws by CFA and local council.
🔥Notify your neighbours if the burn will generate fire and smoke.
🔥Check the weather forecast for the day of the activity and a few days afterward.
🔥Postpone your activity if high fire risk conditions develop.
🔥Establish a gap in vegetation or fire break of no less than three metres cleared of all flammable material.
🔥Have enough people to monitor, contain and extinguish the burn safely and effectively.
🔥Never leave a burn-off unattended.

Daylight Saving Time ends 3:00am Sunday 5th April 2026.
Turn your clocks BACK 1 hour.
This is a good time to check your smoke alarms;
- Dust the alarm with a vacuum cleaner brush
- Press the test button to ensure alarm sounds
- Change the battery annually (long life batteries don't need changing)
