Shepparton Search And Rescue is a volunteer rescue organisation based in Shepparton that has serviced the local community for over 40 years. Shepparton Search And Rescue (SS&RS) for short was first discussed in 1971, when through a series of tragic incidents in the area, it was realised by a handful of concerned citizens, that some form of organised rescue group was needed. We have since then assi

sted the police and emergency services by providing additional man power, lighting and specialised equipment.

πŸ’› National Road Safety Week – 24 May πŸ’›

Today’s Yellow Ride message is a reminder to watch out for everyone who uses our roads and shared paths.

Cyclists, motorbike riders, pedestrians, runners, scooter riders, and drivers all deserve to get home safely.

A little extra awareness and a little extra space can save lives.

πŸ‘€ Stay alert
🚴 Give cyclists space
πŸ›΅ Watch for riders and pedestrians
πŸš— Be patient and respectful
πŸ›£οΈ Share the road safely

We all have a responsibility to look out for each other.

Drive so others survive.

πŸ’› National Road Safety Week – 23 May πŸ’›

Today’s message is about staying safe on regional and rural roads.

Regional roads can be unpredictable β€” higher speeds, long distances, wildlife, fatigue, changing road conditions, and limited lighting all increase the risk of serious crashes.

Take extra care when driving outside built-up areas.

πŸš— Slow down and drive to the conditions
😴 Take breaks and avoid driving tired
🦘 Stay alert for wildlife
πŸ“΅ Keep your focus on the road
🌧️ Adjust your driving for weather and visibility

Too many lives are lost on regional roads every year.

No destination is worth risking your life for. Get there safely.

πŸ’› National Road Safety Week – 22 May πŸ’›

Today’s reminder is simple β€” plan your journey before you hit the road.

Rushing, driving tired, getting distracted by directions, or trying to β€œmake up time” can all increase the risk of a crash.

Before you leave:
πŸ—ΊοΈ Check your route
β›½ Make sure your vehicle is ready
😴 Get enough rest
πŸ“± Set your GPS before driving
β˜• Plan breaks for longer trips

Getting there safely is more important than getting there quickly.

A little planning can save lives.

πŸ’› National Road Safety Week – 21 May πŸ’›

When was the last time you refreshed your road rules knowledge?

Road rules change over time, and it’s easy to forget important details we learned years ago. A quick refresher could help make our roads safer for everyone.

πŸš— Do you know the current speed and mobile phone laws?
🚲 Do you remember the rules around cyclists and giving way?
🚨 Would you know what to do around emergency vehicles?

Good drivers never stop learning.

Take a few minutes today to brush up on your road rules knowledge β€” because safer roads start with informed drivers.

πŸ’› National Road Safety Week – 20 May πŸ’›

Today’s message is about travelling the road to kindness β€” and remembering that your mood can affect the way you drive.

Stress, anger, frustration, and impatience behind the wheel can quickly lead to dangerous decisions.

Before you drive, take a moment to check in with yourself.

😌 Stay calm
πŸš— Be patient
βœ‹ Show kindness to other road users
🧠 Don’t let emotions control your driving

A safer road starts with the attitude we bring behind the wheel.

Drive with patience. Drive with kindness. Drive so others survive.

πŸ’› National Road Safety Week – 19 May πŸ’›

Today’s message is about being mindful of young people on our roads β€” especially those learning to drive on their L plates.

For many young drivers, every trip behind the wheel is a new experience. Busy roads, traffic, and pressure from other drivers can quickly become overwhelming.

A little patience can go a long way.

πŸš— Give learner drivers space
🀝 Be patient and understanding
πŸ“΅ Stay focused and avoid distractions
πŸ‘€ Help create safer roads for young drivers learning vital skills

Every confident and safe driver started as an L plater.

Let’s support young people on our roads and help them get home safely every time.

Today marks the beginning of National Road Safety Week πŸ’›

Today, we remember the more than 1,300 lives lost on Australian roads last year. πŸ’›

1,300 people who never made it home.
1,300 families forever changed.
1,300 reasons to slow down, pay attention, and make safer choices behind the wheel.

Road trauma doesn’t just happen to strangers β€” it affects entire communities.

As we begin National Road Safety Week, we stand with those grieving loved ones and remind everyone that every decision on the road matters.

Drive so others survive.

A huge thank you to Ash from BYD Shepparton for generously allowing Shepparton Search and Rescue to borrow an electric vehicle and a hybrid vehicle overnight for our members to look over and learn from.

With more EV and hybrid vehicles appearing on our roads every day, opportunities like this are incredibly valuable for our volunteers to gain a better understanding of vehicle layouts, safety systems, and new technology.

Being able to spend time familiarising ourselves with these vehicles helps ensure we are better prepared to respond safely and effectively at future incidents.

We greatly appreciate the support and trust shown to our organisation and volunteers. Thank you, BYD! βš‘πŸš—
