From the Goulburn Valley to 11 international markets, this Australian apple is going places. 🍎🌏

At ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA, Geoff Akers - Deputy Mayor for Greater Shepparton City Council caught up with Elliot Jones, General Manager of WA Farm Direct, to talk about the Australian-bred apple marketed as Bravo® at home and Soluna™ internationally.

Elliot explains that WA Farm Direct is exporting the variety to 11 countries, including China, the United States and Canada. He also shares the Goulburn Valley’s major role as the variety’s largest growing region in Australia.

For Elliot, the power of Asia Fruit Logistica is the opportunity to put the apple directly in front of businesses that may never have seen or tasted it before. One taste can start a conversation, and the right conversation can lead to new trade opportunities.

That international exposure can help build demand for fruit grown here, creating potential benefits for our growers and the wider Greater Shepparton horticultural supply chain.

Growing premium fruit is only part of the export story. Growing the right relationships matters too. 🍑🤝🌏

At ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA, Geoff Akers - Deputy Mayor for Greater Shepparton City Council caught up with local grower Dasha Sherif from I.M. Sweet Australia.

From premium plums and apricots grown in the Goulburn Valley to the growing opportunities for Australian produce in China, Dasha explains why attending an event of this scale is so important for local growers.

Being at Asia Fruit Logistica is about more than displaying produce. It provides businesses with the chance to meet buyers and industry partners face to face, understand what international markets are seeking and build the trust needed to turn interest into future trade.

The Greater Shepparton stand, delivered in partnership with Fruit Growers Victoria, gives businesses such as I.M. Sweet Australia a professional base for those conversations and helps put our region’s growers in front of a global audience.

If new opportunities develop, the benefits can extend across our community through orchards, packing sheds, cold storage, freight, suppliers and local jobs.

Big event. Local grower. Fresh opportunities. 🧡💜🌏

Amid the scale and energy of ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA, Geoff Akers - Deputy Mayor for Greater Shepparton City Council caught up with Ani Singh from Red Leaf Fresh Fruit, one of the Greater Shepparton growers represented in Hong Kong.

They discuss the peaches 🍑 and plums 🟣 Ani is looking to take into international markets, how Red Leaf Fresh Fruit currently balances exports with domestic supply, and the sheer size of an event bringing the global fresh produce industry together.

Ani also explains why Council’s support and a coordinated Greater Shepparton presence make a genuine difference for local growers.

Being here gives businesses such as Red Leaf Fresh Fruit a professional base to showcase their produce, meet buyers, understand market demand and build relationships that can be difficult to establish from home.

And Ani’s verdict on being involved? “I'm very happy with the results.” 🙌

An Australian-bred apple. A newly opened market for mainland growers. A relationship that could help turn access into opportunity. 🍎🌏

During day one at ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA, Geoff Akers - Deputy Mayor for Greater Shepparton City Council and Michael Crisera, Grower Services Manager at Fruit Growers Victoria Ltd, visited the Goodfarmer Group stand to discuss why this is such a significant moment for Australian apple growers.

Goodfarmer manages and markets Pink Lady across Greater China. With new market access allowing apples grown on mainland Australia to be exported to China for the first time this season, building relationships with established businesses in the market is an important part of converting access on paper into future commercial opportunities.

For Greater Shepparton growers, these conversations provide first-hand insight into what Chinese buyers and consumers are looking for. They also help build the trust and connections our region needs to compete in a major international market.

One conversation does not guarantee a trade outcome, but this is where the practical work begins: introducing our region, understanding market requirements and developing relationships that may generate future opportunities for growers, packers, freight operators and other local businesses.

Watch Geoff and Michael explain why this new chapter matters for Greater Shepparton and Australian horticulture.
