The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. It is made up almost entirely of volunteers, with 229 units located throughout New South Wales. The units comprise of approximately 10,000 volunteer members, who are easily identified by their distinctive orange overalls. While our major responsibilities are for flood and storm operations

, the SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales. The Service's trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters. The SES also assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include the NSW Police Force , the NSW Rural Fire Service , the Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW .

🌤️Flooding no longer expected in the Hunter catchment. But it has still been a big few days for your emergency services.

NSW SES has responded to more than 500 incidents as widespread rainfall and thunderstorms impact northern and eastern parts of the state. 🌧️

Flood rescue operators, along with partner emergency service personnel, have completed seven flood rescues across the Central Coast and Mid North Coast. The majority have involved cars that became trapped in floodwater as flash flooding inundated roads quickly.

🚘❗Steer clear of floodwater. If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find an alternative route.

Heavy rainfall is forecast to continue for parts of the Hunter, Mid North Coast and adjacent districts this afternoon, before easing later today.

‼MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE FOR THE HUNTER AND PARTS OF THE MID NORTH COAST FROM OVERNIGHT THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY

🚧A broad low pressure trough will deepen to a low pressure system over southern Queensland or northern inland New South Wales. The low will traverse the northeast quarter of the state, before entering the coastal waters of the Hunter and the Mid North Coast. This system will generate widespread moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms from Thursday afternoon into Friday, across the Hunter and parts of the Mid North Coast.

You should stay informed by monitoring warnings issued by NSW SES on their website and page, listening to your local ABC radio station, and checking the latest weather information from the Bureau of Meteorology online.

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises a broad trough over northern and eastern NSW is expected to generate widespread moderate rainfall and thunderstorms over the next few days. A low within the trough is expected to result in heavy rainfall for parts of the Hunter and southern parts of the Mid North Coast from late Thursday.

Minor flooding may develop along parts of the Wollombi Brook and Lower Hunter River from Thursday into Friday. Uncertainty remains in the location and timing of the heaviest falls, and the Flood Watch area will be reviewed over the coming days.

Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by dangerous floodwaters:

- Low lying areas of Bulga and Wollombi
- Low lying roads and causeways

From overnight Thursday into Friday, minor flooding is possible along the Paterson and Williams Rivers.

Minor flooding is possible along the Manning and Gloucester, Goulburn and Hunter Rivers and Wollombi Brook from Friday.

🌧️ A wet and stormy few days are ahead for NSW with showers, thunderstorms and the potential for heavy rainfall and flash flooding later this week.
⚠️ Forecast conditions for Singleton LGA include:
📍 Wednesday - Partly cloudy. Very high chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening, possibly severe with heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding about the Upper Hunter.
📍 Thursday - Heavy rain and possible thunderstorms with a risk of flash flooding
📍 Friday - Cloudy. Very high chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm about the Lower Hunter in the morning. Light winds becoming westerly 15 to 25 km/h during the day. Overnight temperatures falling to between 12 and 15 with daytime temperatures reaching between 15 and 19
