Two Skye Fire Brigade members doing us proud at the AFAC Conference this week! 👏

Firefighter Richard Hurley is a CSIRO researcher studying how fire behaves in different crops, helping improve the way we predict fire behaviour in Australia 🔥

Firefighter Bob Schaede supports our organisation and the wider industry through equipment and processes that make our jobs easier 🚒

Your hard work and contribution are making a difference. Thank you Richard and Bob! 🙌

Help us get to you when it matters most!

Please avoid parking:
💧 Within 1 metre of a fire hydrant (like the one pictured below).
🚒 On narrow roads or opposite parked cars.
🚧 In a way that blocks access to streets, driveways or emergency access points.

When we respond to an emergency, every second counts. A fire truck needs significantly more space than a regular car, and a blocked hydrant can delay our access to essential water supply.

Recently the brigade responded to assist our colleagues at Ambulance Victoria and Eyewatch - Frankston Police Service Area with an injured male along the side of Peninsula Link Freeway Frankston North.

The male patient had sustained a suspected injury to his leg and Ambulance Victoria crews were unable to extract him due to muddy/rough terrain and poor weather conditions.

Skye's "Support" (a 4x4 Ford Ranger) was used to access the patient and transport both AV crews and the patient out to a waiting road ambulance.

A unique call and well done to all emergency services onscene.

Today the Australian Government conducted a national test of the new AusAlert emergency warning system.

From October, AusAlert will be used to send warnings about a range of emergencies, including bushfires 🔥

If you didn't receive today's test alert, your phone may not be compatible, may need a software update, or may have been out of service at the time. It's worth checking your device is ready to receive future emergency alerts.

And remember, AusAlert is only one way to receive emergency information. Don't wait for an alert before taking action- have an emergency plan, stay informed, and download the VicEmergency app to receive warnings and incident information for your area 👍

It's a nice night to sit at home in front of your fireplace 😌 but before you do, make sure you stay fire safe. 🔥

✅ Always use a fire screen in front of an open fire.
✅ Keep anything that can burn, such as clothes, furniture, and curtains, at least 1 metre away.
✅ Extinguish your fire before leaving the house or going to bed.
✅ Always supervise children around open fires.
✅ Make sure ashes are completely cold before disposing of them.
✅ Only burn dry, clean wood.

Recently the team from Macclesfield Fire Brigade (CFA) attended Skye Fire Brigade to provide a very engaging and interesting training session surrounding the unique area of Large Animal Rescue.

The team provide this service across Victoria and the care shown in the rescues they have undertaken of large animals is apparent in the case studies that they shared.

Thanks for taking the time out to show us what you do, and what we should do if faced with a unique rescue of this kind.
