Somers BA support van was paged to assist Tyabb Fire Brigade Friday evening.

We were there with Westernport Fire Brigades Group - CFA swap and go cylinder program, ensuring that there was always someone on the end of the hose in Breathing Apparatus.

Somerville Fire Brigade and Hastings Fire Brigade were also on scene.

By the end, we had given out 13 cylinders, took the empty ones away to refill at the filling station in Mooroduc.

It's just one of the extra rolls we do to help keep our neighbouring brigades and communities safe.

Does this sound like something you would like to do?

We are, like all of CFA, 100% volunteer brigades and we need members.

🚨On the 27th of July at 2pm, The Australian Government is launching AusAlert, a new national warning system that can send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices in times of disaster.

AusAlert will be ready to use from October 2026, but before it launches it will be tested across Australia.

A national test will be conducted on 27 July. You will receive a test emergency alert on your phone as part of the Federal Government’s new AusAlert national emergency warning system trial.

🔊 Expect a loud siren sound, vibration and pop-up alert, even if your phone is on silent. This is only a test and no action needed.

This morning Somers CFA 🚒 crews went checking fire hydrants in several locations, these were around the Lord Somers Camp, Camp Hill Rd and the Promenade

As you can see from the photos, some of these fire hydrants were covered with grass or were filled with dirt.

This can mean in the event of an emergency 🚨 firefighters 👨‍🚒 will be unable to access the fire hydrant as quickly as they would like.

Residents can help by maintaining grass around fire hydrants and using a garden hose to wash out any dirt.

If a fire hydrant or marker post are damaged residents can report this to South East Water via the app Snap Send Solve 📱

On Friday night we paged to assist Somerville Fire Brigade with our BA support van for a house fire.

We kept the crews that were at the end of the hoses going with full Breathing Apparatus air cylinders.

In total we supplied 13 cylinders throughout the evening.

Somers, like all other CFA brigades are 100% volunteers.

We need people like you to keep us supporting the fire fight, not just at the end of the hose either.

Our numbers are down, and now is the best time to join, while our aging members are around, so they can impart their knowledge to keep our Brigade strong.

Somers will soon be farewelling Nick Crase from our little Brigade.
Nick joined the Somers Fire Brigade in 2007, bringing with him his life experiences to help shape us into what you see today.

Throughout his years of volunteering, not only with the Brigade but also with the Yacht Club, including manning the rescue boat, he has seen many of the campaign fires that have left a mark on the State of Victoria.

From Black Saturday to the Black Summer fires, which took him over the border to help our interstate colleagues, and then our most recent summer fire season.

He has received the National Emergency Medal for the Black Saturday fires and then again for the Black Summer fires.
He will also be receiving the National Service Medal for volunteering later this year.

He put his hand up to become a lieutenant, a group delegate, and a training coordinator, on top of all the required training and the optional ones too.

Nick's experience, thoughtful, helpful advice, and his generosity with his time to the Brigade will be sorely missed, but most of all, his friendship.

Thank you, Nick, for being an amazing human!
Make sure you thank him if you see him in town, before he heads North.
