Some people start their day with a coffee ☕️ we started ours with a car fire 🔥🚘

Called in just after 6AM, the fire had already spread to nearby grass and trees. Fortunately some early risers spotted it and called 000.

Luckily it was just next door at the railway station so we were on scene and had the fire contained within a few minutes 🚒

Friday night, local CFA & FRV crews responded to a devastating house fire in Somerville.

While every job leaves its mark in different ways, one thing we continue to notice is that many people (including other agencies) assume CFA firefighters are paid to do what we do.

We’re not.

Every firefighter you see on scene from Somerville CFA are volunteers. We leave our homes, our families, our jobs — often in the middle of the night — to show up when our community needs us most.

We don’t do it for recognition, but it’s important our community understands what sits behind the trucks, the lights, and the uniforms.

A huge thank you to BlueScope Steel Hastings for their generous grant supporting our brigade 🙌

Thanks to their contribution, we’ve been able to install a Station Protect system from GAAM in our turnout room — helping to remove harmful contaminants from the air where our gear is stored.

It might not be something the public sees, but it makes a real difference to the health and safety of our firefighters. After attending incidents, our gear can carry smoke particles and toxins, so having cleaner air in this space is incredibly important for reducing ongoing exposure.

We’re incredibly grateful for the support — investments like this help us look after our people, so we can keep looking after our community ❤️🚒

Here’s something a bit special happening behind the scenes at our brigade… and it deserves a shout 👏

Our Juniors have been absolutely smashing it.

From getting hands on with training, to showing up, stepping up, and backing each other every single week. These kids are building more than skills. They’re building confidence, resilience, and a bloody strong sense of teamwork.

What stands out most isn’t just what they’re learning… it’s how they show up:
✔ Supporting each other
✔ Having a crack, even when it’s hard
✔ Taking pride in being part of something bigger than themselves

They’ve also been getting involved in the community, representing the brigade with enthusiasm and respect, and they do us proud every time.

The future of our brigade is in good hands 💛

To our Juniors, keep showing up, keep learning, and keep being the legends you are. And to the volunteers who mentor and support them week in, week out, you’re shaping something pretty special.
