Firefighters have battled a devastating house fire in Somerville, believed to have been caused by a log rolling from a fireplace.

Crews arrived to find the two-storey house well alight, with the incident a stark reminder to prioritise fireplace, chimney and flue safety over the colder months 🏠

📱 National AusAlert Test – Monday 27 July at 2:00pm

On Monday 27 July at 2:00pm, every mobile phone in Australia will receive a test AusAlert emergency message as part of a nationwide system test.

🔔 Your phone will vibrate, sound an alert, and display a message clearly stating that it is only a test. No action is required.

Please help spread the word so family, friends and neighbours know what to expect.

🚒 A big night for Somerville Fire Brigade, and an exciting new chapter begins!

You may have seen Somerville Fire Brigade featured on the CFA Volunteer Forum last night. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our brigade, our volunteers, and the work we do in support of the Somerville community.

Some people start their day with a coffee ☕️ we started ours with a car fire 🔥🚘

Called in just after 6AM, the fire had already spread to nearby grass and trees. Fortunately some early risers spotted it and called 000.

Luckily it was just next door at the railway station so we were on scene and had the fire contained within a few minutes 🚒

Friday night, local CFA & FRV crews responded to a devastating house fire in Somerville.

While every job leaves its mark in different ways, one thing we continue to notice is that many people (including other agencies) assume CFA firefighters are paid to do what we do.

We’re not.

Every firefighter you see on scene from Somerville CFA are volunteers. We leave our homes, our families, our jobs — often in the middle of the night — to show up when our community needs us most.

We don’t do it for recognition, but it’s important our community understands what sits behind the trucks, the lights, and the uniforms.
