Friday night, local CFA crews responded to a devastating house fire in Somerville.
While every job leaves its mark in different ways, one thing we continue to notice is that many people (including other agencies) assume we are paid to do what we do.
We’re not.
Every firefighter you see on scene from Somerville are volunteers. We leave our homes, our families, our jobs — often in the middle of the night — to show up when our community needs us most.
We don’t do it for recognition, but it’s important our community understands what sits behind the trucks, the lights, and the uniforms.
