TELLS supports the delivery of the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) & Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program across TAFE Queensland locations.

TAFE Queensland English Language and Literacy Services (TELLS) provides leadership, contract management and services to support the delivery of the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) and the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program. The AMEP is funded by the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs. In Queensland, the AMEP is delivered through TAFE Queensland. The SEE program is

At Mooloolaba campus, the popular “Cafe by the SEE” initiative concluded in June, providing participants with valuable hands-on experience aligned with the Certificate III in Hospitality (SIT30622). ☕️

Participants, including Xavier, are nearing completion of the required service components to achieve their qualification.

The SEE class at Charleville is helping local clients work towards their educational and career goals. 👏

The newest participant, Joycelyn, has enrolled in a Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33021) while also building her digital skills.

Other participants, Jayla and Patricia, are attending regularly and focusing on identified skill development areas. Jayla recently achieved her goal of enrolling in the Year 10 Alternative.

Well done to everyone on all their progress, and thank you to their teacher, Kat, for continuing to help her students reach their goals.

In July, the SETS team from Multicultural Australia visited Inala campus to deliver a lantern‑making workshop in preparation for the LUMINOUS 2026 Lantern Parade. 🏮

Through this creative activity, AMEP students from the Thursday Job Club learned about the event and were encouraged to participate with their families and friends, strengthening connections with the wider community. The workshop also provided an opportunity for clients to reflect on their settlement journeys and discuss themes of welcome, belonging, and community. By sharing their experiences and creating lanterns together, clients celebrated cultural connections and a stronger sense of inclusion in their new home.

Meet Sophya, a dedicated Student Support Officer with the South West team at TAFE Queensland. Having been part of the TAFE community for two years, Sophya’s journey and relationship with TAFE Queensland is deeply personal and inspiring. She began as an AMEP student herself and later volunteered in classrooms, experiencing first-hand the transformative power of support and encouragement from teachers and Student Support Officers.

“As a new arrival to Australia, the guidance I received helped me build confidence and find my career pathway,” Sophya shares. “That experience inspired me to become a Student Support Officer so I could give back by helping students settle in, connect with the right services, and pursue their goals.”

Sophya thrives in the culturally diverse environment of the Inala community, where she enjoys being part of a vibrant, multicultural student body. Her proudest moments come from helping AMEP and SEE students access the support they need and witnessing the positive impact it has on their lives, especially when she sees their smiling faces full of appreciation.

Sofia, a former SEE Youth participant on the Gold Coast, has recently transitioned into vocational study and enrolled in the Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance (HLT43021), marking an important step towards her goal of building a career in Australia's health sector. 👏

Through ongoing support from her SEE Participant Support Officer (PSO), Sofia was able to explore career options, set achievable goals, and develop a clear pathway towards her chosen profession.

With the foundation of her SEE study, in her new course, Sofia will develop industry-relevant skills and knowledge and gain a nationally recognised qualification. The course will strengthen her employment prospects and provide opportunities for further education.

At the end of Term 2, seven South Bank AMEP students celebrated graduating form the Work Ready program. 🎓

The students developed workplace communication, job-seeking and interview skills, supported by work placements in industries including accounting, real estate and health. They reported increased confidence and communication skills, while workplace supervisors provided positive feedback on participants’ professionalism and work readiness.

Batseba is a former SEE student who recently found a job at a local Hair and Beauty business in Toowoomba. 💇‍♀️

Completing a Certificate II in Salon Assistant (SHB20216) through the program last year gave her an industry qualification that helped her secure her new role.

Four Toowoomba AMEP students graduated from the Work Ready Program last semester. 🎓

They completed their work placement at local businesses and gained practical hospitality skills. Participation the Work Ready Program provided strong pathway outcomes for the students. Three are progressing into vocational training after gaining new clarity about their goals for the future.

Well done all the graduates, and thank you to the teaching team and local businesses who provided the opportunities for work placement.
