Last week we were honoured to welcome His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM, Governor of Western Australia, and Mrs Dawson to our Bunyap House and Bunyap Rise facilities in Bunbury.
Their visit gave our team the opportunity to share more about the services Accordwest delivers across the South West, including youth accommodation, adult homelessness services, and our rehabilitation and reintegration programs. We appreciated their genuine interest in the work we do every day, as well as the opportunities to further strengthen support for people in our region who need access to the right support at the right time.
We are grateful for the time and consideration shown by His Excellency and Mrs Dawson, and for their commitment to understanding the realities, strengths, and future possibilities for community services in regional Western Australia.
Every story matters — and visits like this reinforce how essential accessible, compassionate support is in creating real change for people in our communities.

🌟 Celebrating the Opening of Bunyap Rise! 🌟
Yesterday, 18th of December, we proudly opened Bunyap Rise, a purpose-built transitional accommodation program for young people aged 17–21 who are experiencing homelessness. The Hon. Minister Swinbourn officially opened the facility, marking a significant step forward in supporting youth in our community.

What is Bunyap Rise?
Bunyap Rise is more than just housing, it’s a safe, stable environment designed specifically for young people. Here, residents can focus on building independence, reconnecting with education, and securing long-term housing. With integrated support services and case management on-site, Bunyap Rise removes barriers and provides a vital stepping-stone between crisis accommodation and independent living.

Why is this needed?
Youth homelessness in Bunbury and the Southwest is a growing issue, driven by family conflict, domestic violence, and rising living costs. Until now, there have been very few youth-specific transitional beds in the region. Bunyap Rise fills this gap, offering supported accommodation and pathways to independence.

How will it help?
Residents will have access to:
✅ Case management and housing support
✅ Education and employment links
✅ Life skills training like budgeting and tenancy management
✅ Trauma-informed, strengths-based care
This program empowers young people to move from instability to independence.

Thank you to our partners!
Bunyap Rise was made possible through collaboration with the Department of Communities, Accordwest Youth Services, MCG Architects, Perkins Builders and local community partners. Together, we’re creating real solutions for youth homelessness in the Southwest.

So wonderful to have Bunyap Rise officially opened today 😍

Eight new units that will house youth experiencing homelessness have opened in Bunbury.

The Bunyap House expansion project includes six studio apartments and two one-bedroom apartments.

The units are designed for 17 to 25 year olds experiencing or at risk of homelessness in the region.

Accordwest CEO Danelle Milward says the project will do more than put a roof over people's heads.

"It was developed in response to a very real gap in the south west," Ms Milward says.

"A lack of youth specific housing that offers not just safety but the support needed to move towards independence.

"Bunyap House is more than a set of units; it's a safe place to land and a secure place to launch from."

Resident Luca Read says the accommodation is vital in ensuring a safe future for young people like her.

"They've given me amazing opportunities here to start a new life and a happy one too.

"This building shows the new people that come in they have a new opportunity to grow and learn and have a safe space they can foster to become their own."
