Doing Things the Old Fashioned Way!
If Live History Plays is all about bringing history to life then the opening of artisan bakery at Cygnet today, Poolish and Co must get a mention! The bakery uses a wood fired oven and you won't taste better bread, cakes, pies or slices anywhere. We loved the lemon tart and apple crumble slice we had for afternoon tea and look what we're having for dinner......

Live History Plays were invited by L. J Ho**er to perform a scene at the launch of 1 Loscombe Court, Moonah. The event was a cocktail party and Judith, playing Mrs Charles Wherret, swept in demanding to know what all these people were doing in her house?
It was a lot of fun and helped to bring the history of this beautiful house to life
It reminded Judith of her "Take Tea With Harriet " days which was performed at Runnymede in New Town. Photo below.
Anyone got any photos of the Loscombe event?

We performed our last Her Story on March 20th this year. We had planned to retire it at the end of June but covid stepped in and the Port Arthur Authority was forced to close all its sites including the Cascades Female Factory. That has now reopened but Mary and Her Story is no more! I was so glad I didn't know that was to be my last performance!
Now we are concentrating on running our lovely Holiday Cottage 19 Blue at beautiful Blackmans Bay and offering our wonderful show The Sheep's Back to groups and dinners. We come to you!

Our latest TripAdvisor review says this:

" stumbled across her story on facebook. this short play features daily at 12pm at the cascade womens factory. a husband and wife team who act out a play of the deportation of a convict woman. the play gives a detailed insight into what this woman and others endured during their incarceration.the main actress had me feeling like i was right there with her in time. i laughed with her and i cried with her while she portrayed the role. very informative and worthwhile! highly recommend for all ages"

Good to know that FaceBook is doing its part in telling people to come and hear the women's story - everyone goes to Port Arthur but the women's site is the Cascades Female Factory.

If you are a local and you haven't visited ever or recently, come and see what has been done since Port Arthur took over
the site some 8 years ago. Make sure you pay the extra though and do either a Heritage Tour or our play, Her Story. You will learn very little by simply paying for the guide yourself around tour.

Joanna's Birthday!

When we arrived to perform Her Story today we saw a group of people including a young girl, pointing to us and saying "There's Mary & the Doctor!"
They had OBVIOUSLY been before!
It turned out it was Joanna's 13th birthday and her top elected thing to do was Her Story - she said she has been around TEN times!!!
Happy 13th Birthday Joanna and THANKS for supporting the female convict story. We are so glad you enjoy coming so much.

Echidna Alert!

When you perform Street or Strolling Theatre as we do on Live History, you have to be prepared for whatever the street, or the weather, throws at you. Not, strictly, during the performance but, afterwards, when we were returning to our car there was a lot of excitement - an echidna was strolling along Degraves Street! Anton, one of the lovely tour guides at the Cascades Female Factory was shepherding this youngster ( he hadn't yet learnt his street smarts) along to a safe place as there was lots of traffic.

The dark blob in the background is Prickles.........
