⚠️ Important safety reminder – please share.

Today at 1:30pm (local time), Australia will conduct a national emergency alert test.

If you have a hidden mobile phone for safety reasons—whether because of domestic violence, coercive control, stalking, or any other circumstance—please take a moment before 1:30pm today to locate it and turn it off if it is safe for you to do so.

The test alert may sound loudly, even if the phone is on silent or “Do Not Disturb”, depending on the device.

This post isn’t intended to cause alarm—just to make sure nobody is put at risk by forgetting about a phone tucked away for emergencies.

Please consider sharing this post. It could be the reminder that keeps someone safe today. 💙

More information about the national test is available here:

Neural Nugget: Babies who are talked to frequently know about 300 more words by age 2 than babies who hear fewer words, giving them a stronger foundation for language and learning.

One of the best ways to support healthy brain development is through serve-and-return interactions: the back-and-forth of talking, playing, making faces, and responding to your baby's sounds and cues. These everyday moments help build the brain, one interaction at a time.

Curious about what's happening inside your baby's brain? Explore our Baby Brain Map, an interactive guide that makes the science of early brain development easy to understand and put into practice: https://bit.ly/4w3j4jg

𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 – 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

Every year, over 300,000 people worldwide lose their lives to drowning – including hundreds of families across Australia. Most drowning deaths occur in low and middle-income countries, but no community is immune. Children and young people are most at risk.

This World Drowning Prevention Day, communities across Australia and around the globe are uniting to turn the tide on drowning by raising awareness, building lifesaving skills and taking simple actions that help keep people safe in, on and around water.

Kidsafe SA is proud to support Royal Life Saving Society - Australia and the global movement to prevent drowning.

Here’s how you can take action:

• Enrol in swimming lessons
• Supervise children at all times around water
• Check your pool fence and gate
• Avoid alcohol and drugs around water
• Wear a lifejacket when on the water
• Know the conditions
• Learn CPR
• Train to become a swim teacher or pool lifeguard

Every action matters. Together, we can unite to turn the tide on drowning.
