Today Fire Rescue NSW 449 South West Rocks,345 Kempsey
and NSWSES Kempsey Shire participated in a Rescue Development Day. The morning consisted of a session on Alternative Fuelled Vehicles and how all rescue agencies can work safely together on a accidents involving alternative fuels. This was a very informative session and demonstrated how lithium batteries are an everyday part of our lives.

Then mid morning there was period for time on rescue tools. Allowing participants to use edrualics (battery operated rescue cutters, spreaders and rams) and try different rescue techniques.

The afternoon session consisted of a road crash rescue scenario were all agencies work together to safely and efficiently extricate the patient.

This training collaboration strengthens our skills, interoperability and teamwork to provide better outcomes for our communities.

Some time ago the North Coast Trucking Social Club donated some much need equipment for road crash rescue.

NSWSES Kempsey Shire wish to thank the North Coast Trucking Social Club for their continued support of our small unit.

Our community is really lucky to have community clubs that support services like the NSWSES.

This weekend sees the NSWSES and FRNSW come together for a rescue skills development day.
The day consists of a number of different rescue scenarios and builds interoperability between Kempsey Shire’s rescue services.

This type of training benefits the community by ensuring seamless integration of our rescue services when they need it most.

NSW SES would like to thank Macleay Auto Wreckers for their continued support as without their kind donations of motor vehicles we would not be able to provide these quality services.

Members of the 3 Macleay Valley SES units acknowledge the passing of Brian “ Bomba” Sutherland former member of the South West Rocks unit.
His funeral service will be held on Friday 14th August, 2026 at 10-00am in The Chapel Of Walkers Crematorium Everinghams Lane Frederickton

Today, we stand with our colleagues and friends at NSW SES Wyong Unit as they mourn the heartbreaking loss of their Unit Commander, Matt le Clercq.

Matt's dedication to the NSW SES, his leadership, and his unwavering commitment to serving his community earned the respect of members right across the Service. His legacy will be remembered not only by those who served alongside him at Wyong, but by volunteers across the wider SES family, including here at NSW SES Macleay Valley.

Our thoughts are with Matt's family, friends, the members of Wyong SES, and everyone whose lives he touched during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, Matt. Thank you for your service, your leadership, and the legacy you leave behind. 🧡

It is with deep sadness that we share the unexpected passing of our Unit Commander, Matt le Clercq.

Matt was an exceptional leader whose dedication, compassion, and tireless commitment to protecting our community inspired everyone around him.

His leadership helped shape our unit into more than just a team. Wyong Unit became a place where people felt safe, supported, and part of a family.

Matt's impact on our members, our community, and the SES will be felt for many years to come. His legacy lives on through the people he mentored, the friendships he built, and the countless lives he touched through his service.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Matt's family, friends, and fellow SES members during this incredibly difficult time.

Matt’s passing is believed to be due to an unexpected medical episode and we ask that you keep his family, friends and colleagues in your thoughts as they navigate the days ahead.

Congratulations to our successful Road Crash Rescue Course Participants

After four full days of training and completion of their assessments today Kempsey SES Rescue and the community have six newly qualified rescue operators.

This Wednesday 20th May is WOW DAY ( Wear Orange Wednesday ). Staff at businesses in Kempsey are encouraged to wear something orange on Wednesday to show their support for the work the volunteers at SES do through out the year. If you are wearing something orange on Wednesday contact the SES page and I’ll call in sometime during the day and take a photo and post it on the SES page that afternoon

Members of the Macleay Valley SES Units send condolences to the families, friends and members of Marine Rescue NSW, as well as all those effected by the tragedy off Ballina Bar last night.
Not only the loss of life from Marine Rescue NSW but also the loss of life from the vessel they were responding to
This is a timely reminder of what emergency services can face every time they answer a call for help, frequently in the most challenging and dangerous conditions
