Using gas and electricity around the home can lead to serious risks… so make sure you’re following the right path.

While the situation might *seem* like ‘she’ll be right’, it’s important to:

🟠 Get electrical wiring issues professionally assessed and resolved by a licensed electrician, who must provide you with a Certificate of Electrical Safety.

🔵 Get gas appliances serviced by a qualified gasfitter at least once every two years. If you’re not the property owner, request copies of the most recent gas safety check report results.

🟣 Check LPG gas bottles and their connections with soapy water before use. If bubbles form, check connections and test again. Still bubbling? Don’t use the bottle.

⚪ Always get a licensed electrician to carry out electrical work – including renovations and big jobs!

A recall has been issued by ACCC Product Safety for RV-One HDJYF1001-1 pressure regulators fitted to the gas systems of some Snowy River and Newgen caravans.

The diaphragm inside the regulator can fail, causing LPG gas to leak. If leaking gas builds up or reaches an ignition source, it can cause a fire, an explosion, serious injury or death.

There is also a risk of asphyxiation if gas accumulates in an enclosed space.

The affected regulator has AGA approval number 9191 and is mounted on the A-frame at the front of the caravan, between the gas cylinders and the body of the van.

If you hold more than one licence class, you will need to do CPD for each licence class ✅

AusNet Transmission Group is facing 22 charges over allegations it failed to manage known safety risks associated with low-hanging transmission lines across 18 locations in Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Energy Safe Victoria has accused AusNet of failing to notify affected landholders about low-clearance transmission lines on their properties and how to operate safely around them, despite allegedly being aware of the spans for up to 18 months before taking action.

Making affected landholders aware of low-clearance transmission lines is a simple but important safety measure, giving people the information they need to take appropriate precautions when operating large machinery or undertaking other activities nearby.

The matter is listed for a first mention at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 19 November 2026.

Not all chargers are made equal… even if they look the same.

A recent residential garage fire investigation uncovered two power tool battery chargers which appeared almost identical from the outside.

But inside, Energy Safe investigators discovered a critical difference.

One charger was made with dedicated safety circuits designed to monitor battery voltage, currents and temperature when charging. The other charger contained only a basic charging circuit – despite both having the same battery interface and appearing to offer the same function.

While non-compliant or imitation products can closely resemble compliant equipment, they might lack the parts and safety features needed to operate safely.

Always:
✅ Buy batteries and chargers from reputable suppliers
✅ Use only the manufacturer approved charging equipment
✅ Be cautious of bargains that might be too good to be true.
