Ageing in place for those who live in rural communities is a challenge that often sees older people forced to relocate to bigger towns with the necessary support, causing heartache for the individual in need of help and their loved ones unable to secure it locally.

Yesterday, NSA visited the rural Queensland town of Kilkivan to acknowledge volunteers of the Kilkivan & District Community Care Association Inc (KDCCAI) for their work to improve the experience of ageing for residents. Through the establishment of a seniors community hub, provision of a community transport service and assistance with support at home services, the KDCCAI volunteers under the leadership of KDCCAI President and 2026 ECCCM winner, Ms Rosie Fitzgerald, have helped hundreds of older residents to remain in their community as they age.

KDCCAI’s focus is now on securing the funding to help build transitional accommodation to help older residents down-size locally into one-bedroom rental homes or move into shared accommodation with greater supervision. NSA is pleased to support KDCCAI as it works to raise the vital funds to see this much-needed accommodation come to life.

Thank you to our incredible branch volunteers!

Over recent weeks, the National Seniors Australia team has attended several branch AGMs and branch meetings across South East Queensland, including Pacific Paradise, Chermside, Aspley, and Kenmore, assisting with committee elections and providing updates on our advocacy work and member benefits.

We are incredibly grateful to the volunteers who step up to serve on branch committees and support the many activities that help keep our branches thriving. Your time, dedication and enthusiasm make a real difference.

Our branches are a fantastic way to make new friends, learn new things, have your say on issues affecting older Australians, and enjoy a wide range of social activities and events.

πŸ’™ Thank you, Ipswich!

It was wonderful to see so many local seniors join us at our recent Seniors Information Session at Brothers Leagues Club, Ipswich.

There was strong interest in National Seniors Australia's advocacy work, including our Keep Cash campaign, proudly supported by atmx, with many attendees showing their support by posing with our Keep Cash selfie frame.

A special thank you to Jade Lohman from Commonwealth Bank for her practical scam awareness presentation, Stacey Croker from Hearing Australia for sharing valuable hearing health information, and WaterWipes for providing giveaways for attendees.

National Seniors Australia representatives Karen Furnivall and David Hallesy enjoyed meeting everyone, including Valerie, a remarkable National Seniors life member of 29 years.

Have you or someone you know received a suspicious call, text or email recently?
During Scam Awareness Week (24-28 August), we're reminding Australians that anyone can be targeted by scammers.

Awareness is one of the best forms of protection. By learning how to recognise the warning signs and sharing that knowledge with family and friends, we can help stop scams in their tracks.

πŸ’™ Thank you, Wynnum!

A big thank you to everyone who attended our recent Wynnum Seniors Information Session at Wynnum Library.

It was fantastic to see such strong support for our Keep Cash campaign, supported by atmx, with many attendees proudly having their photos taken in support of protecting access to cash. There were also lively discussions about aged care and opposition to the proposed private health insurance rebate changes for older Australians.

Thank you to Xavier Villagonzalo from Commonwealth Bank Wynnum for his engaging scam awareness presentation, Louise Cooper from Hearing Australia for her practical hearing health tips, Wynnum Library for providing the venue, and WaterWipes for the giveaways.
