This Tuesday we catch up with Roy, a Custodial Correctional Officer at Lotus Glen Correctional Centre in the state's Far North!

A recent graduate from the QCS Academy, Roy's first six months as a CCO has seen him dive head first into the diverse range of roles all CCO's undertake as they work towards delivering safer communities and reducing the number of victims of crime.

It's a rewarding career path that supports Roy's development while earning him a Certificate III in Correctional Practices along the way.

“Cooper was much loved by everyone who had the opportunity to meet him, with his kindness, affection and loyalty acting as an enduring beacon of light within our correctional centre. Vale PADD Dog Cooper.”

Queensland Corrective Services is saddened to announce the passing of retired Passive Alert Drug Detection (PADD) dog Cooper, who served eight years at Townsville Correctional Complex.

Preventing a range of contraband from entering the correctional centre, PADD Dog Cooper worked hard to keep officers, visitors and the centre safe, and is being remembered for his outstanding skills as a service dog and unwavering loyalty to the community.

Today, we pause to mark National Police Remembrance Day, commemorating those police officers who have been killed in the line of duty or have died as a result of their duties across all jurisdictions.

Queensland Corrective Services works closely with Queensland Police Service every day, and we thank them for their commitment and dedication to their public duty and working alongside us to help keep Queensland communities safe.

This year, our thoughts are with the NSW Police Force and the wider policing community following the tragic passing of Constable Mia Lay, who tragically died in the line of duty last week.

It's Save the Koala Day! 🎉🐨

Queensland Corrective Services is doing its part to help koalas, with prisoner-maintained plantations of more than 20,000 eucalyptus trees grown at low custody centres across the state to support community zoos and wildlife sanctuaries.

We're talking nearly 50 different varieties to meet changes in koala's dietary needs throughout of the course of a year, ensuring local koalas stay healthy and well fed no matter the season!
