This National Reconciliation Week, we’re ‘All In’ in recognising the importance of community partnership to make Queensland safer and reduce victims of crime.

Queensland Corrective Services has celebrated 30 years of partnership with the Mackay-based Binga Birry Justice Group who facilitate monthly Elders visits to prisoners at Townsville and Capricornia Correctional Centres.

Helping to reduce reoffending and ensure successful reintegration through strengthening prisoners’ connection to community, their regular cultural support and mentorship is a key example of how our reform and rehabilitation programs are helping restore community safety.

Today we recognise WOW Day and take the opportunity to thank the incredible State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers who support communities across Queensland and Australia.

Queensland Corrective Services is proud to partner with SES, working together to support disaster response and recovery, with low custody prisoners assisting in preparing sandbags and disaster clean-up.

Thank you to our SES partners for your commitment, resilience and invaluable contribution to keeping our communities safe and for creating meaningful opportunities that helps prisoners give back to make a positive difference in times of need.

🧡🧡
