🚒 Fire Prevention

🌼It doesn’t feel like it yet, but there’s only a few weeks until spring.
So, we encourage you to spring into action and begin fire prevention measures on your property, especially now before conditions suddenly become dry and contractors get busy.

We’ve got our teams on the task already, we’d love you to do the same at your place.

We will commence our Municipal Fire Prevention Program shortly where we inspect properties for hazards (sometimes at the request of your neighbours or concerned others).

We are hosting a series of free online information sessions throughout early spring to discuss fire-aware property management, responsibilities and helpful advice.

We live in a high-risk area, so please join us there!

🔧 Shed, Garage & BBQ Fire Safety Tips

Fires can grow rapidly when items like gas cylinders, petrol cans and other chemicals are present. Reduce your risk by removing unnecessary fuels and storing essential items safely and away from heat sources.

• Store chemicals safely.
Keep petrol, paints, solvents, and other chemical products in approved containers, away from ignition sources and out of reach of children.

• Dispose of unwanted chemicals correctly.
If you no longer need certain chemicals, take them to a proper disposal facility. Never pour them down drains or throw them in household rubbish.

• BBQ safely by checking hoses and connections.
Regularly inspect gas hoses for cracks, brittleness, or wear. Check all connections for leaks before use, a simple soapy‑water test can help identify escaping gas.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Damaging Winds has been issued with fast moving storms heading east across the Mallee and Wimmera, affecting areas including Mildura, Ouyen, Murrayville, Rainbow, Walpeup and Nhil. Expect damaging winds and heavy rain with possible flash flooding.

With school holidays underway, take extra care around rivers, creeks and lakes as water levels can rise quickly. If camping, avoid trees and low lying areas near waterways.

If conditions become dangerous, stay indoors. If driving, pull over safely away from trees, drains and floodwater. If you need SES help, please call 132 500.
