Finding the right words to say goodbye.

Choosing the music for a loved one’s funeral is a deeply personal task. It is also one of the decisions families often find most overwhelming when planning a service.

Music has a unique ability to capture a person’s spirit, celebrate their life, and provide comfort to those left behind. Whether you are looking for a traditional hymn, a classical instrumental piece, or a contemporary song that brings back fond memories, finding the perfect tribute takes time.

To help support you during this process, we have put together a carefully considered collection of 40 funeral songs.

This guide covers a wide variety of genres and artists to help you find a piece of music that truly reflects the life and personality of your loved one.

Read our guide to find the inspiration you need to create a meaningful tribute.

A gentle reminder to secure your family's place at Springvale Botanical Cemetery before 30 June

Springvale Botanical Cemetery has been a place of comfort, connection, and reflection for generations of Melbourne families.

If you have been considering securing a memorial space within our beautiful botanical grounds, we want to provide you with an important update. Our current prices are locked in until 30 June 2026.

From 1 July 2026, a government-regulated price update of 3.1 per cent will take effect across all Victorian cemetery trusts in line with the Consumer Price Index.

By finalising your pre-planning arrangements this month, you can secure your preferred location at Springvale at today's rates. More importantly, pre-planning locks in the cost of your selected memorial forever, completely protecting your loved ones from future financial stress.

We know that space within our established, historic grounds is highly sought after by families wishing to stay close together. Taking the step to plan ahead is one of the most practical and thoughtful gifts you can leave for them.

Our dedicated Customer Care team is here to guide you through the remaining options at Springvale with absolute sensitivity and zero pressure.

Please visit https://www.smct.org.au/news/2026-planned-price-updates to read the full details of the upcoming fee updates, or to book an obligation-free appointment today.

Take time to understand your grief in a supportive space.

Navigating loss is a deeply personal experience, but you do not have to walk that path entirely alone.

If you are seeking a safe, guided environment to process your feelings and learn practical coping strategies, we warmly invite you to our day-long Grief Retreat at Springvale Botanical Cemetery on Saturday, 13 June 2026.

To ensure every attendee receives the care, space, and support they need, we keep the capacity for this retreat small. Spaces are strictly limited, and registrations must close on Sunday, 07 June 2026.

If you have been considering attending, please take a moment today to secure your place.

To read more about what the day involves or to register your attendance, please visit our website: https://www.smct.org.au/events/grief-retreat-springvale

🖤💛❤️ For SMCT, Reconciliation means taking meaningful action. We appreciate opportunities to work alongside the Traditional Custodians of the land on which many of our sites are located, the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation.

We were honoured to host Bunurong Elder Uncle Shane and proud Bunurong man James Brown to conduct a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony on site at St Kilda Cemetery to officially mark our healing of Country together through Project Cultivate.

SMCT CEO Ingrid Harvey said Project Cultivate was a nation-building program creating a legacy of care and connection.

“Together we are creating a thriving, respectful place for community to honour their loved ones, acknowledge our shared histories, and explore the possibilities for a more sustainable future.”

We thank the Traditional Custodians, community leaders and organisations who continue to offer their support and share knowledge to strengthen our work to care for Country together.

You do not have to share your story to find support.

Navigating grief can be overwhelming, and taking the step to seek guidance is often daunting, especially if you are not ready to talk about your personal experience.

In partnership with Grief Australia, we are hosting our free monthly "Navigating Grief" bereavement information session at Springvale Botanical Cemetery.

This session is designed differently. It is an educational environment, not a peer support group. There is absolutely no expectation or pressure to speak. You are warmly invited to simply sit, listen, and take away the insights, practical guidance, and understanding that feel most helpful to you.

Set in a calm and welcoming space, this session will focus on delivering clear, accessible information to help you understand the different aspects of the grieving process.

Event Details:
Date: Friday, 1 May 2026
Time: 10:30 am – 12 pm
