♻️ It’s here, St Helens!

Break O’Day’s first Recycle Rewards reverse vending machine is now open at the St Helens Sports Complex car park, off Tully Street.

That means you can finally return eligible drink containers locally and receive 10 cents back for each one — or donate your refund to a local community group, including the St Helens District High School Association or St Helens RSL.

Eligible containers include most drink containers between 150ml and 3L. Just make sure they are not crushed and have their labels attached so the machine can read them.

This is a great win for our community, our local causes and our beautiful East Coast environment.

Collect. Return. Refund or donate. Win win! 🌿

Find out more about eligible containers and donation options on the Recycle Rewards website. https://recyclerewards.com.au/

Do you live or work in the Break O’Day Council area? Come along to a community discussion and hear how Tasmanian research is serving local needs in understanding present and future coastal risk.

🌊Find out about tidal patterns in Georges Bay, what role Antarctica will play in sea level changes, and how the Natural Hazards Atlas for Tasmania is helping communities to be informed and prepared for future risk.

“In partnership with the Tasmanian SES, three tide gauges were operated for 12 months to measure the water levels in Georges Bay to understand how tides and surges from the ocean interact with river flows from catchment runoff,” said IMAS Research Fellow, Dr Karen Palmer, who led the research.

“The installation timing in March 2021 couldn’t have been more apt, coinciding with a severe low-pressure system that brought flash flooding, strong winds, and an ocean surge, during the higher tides of the spring-neap tidal cycle.

“The measurements provide valuable insights into the likelihood of coastal hazards affecting the low-lying areas surrounding Georges Bay, including inundation, erosion and delayed stormwater drainage.

“As sea levels rise these hazards inevitably occur more frequently, affecting residents, businesses, environmental values, and transport routes around St Helens.”

💧 Water restrictions to be lifted across Tasmania tonight
Great news for communities across the state - water restrictions will be lifted at midnight tonight following recent welcome rainfall.

The rain has helped restore river flows and dam levels, allowing most supply systems to recover after last week’s heavy weather.

✅ Restrictions lifting in:
• Orford and Triabunna
• Oatlands
• Scamander
• Whitemark

⚠️ Lady Barron (Flinders Island) will remain on Stage 1 restrictions while local conditions continue to be monitored. While this is positive news, we’re encouraging everyone to continue using water wisely. With the potential for drier conditions ahead, every drop still counts.

💡 Simple actions at home and work can make a big difference.
