Yesterday we had a fantastic turnout, with around 60 members of the St Leonards Probus Club attending a Home Fire Safety session delivered by Jacqui and Tony from the CFA Community Safety team, held at the St Leonards Bowling Club.

The Reduce the Risk (Home Fire Safety) presentation covered the common causes of house fires, how to identify fire risks in different areas of the home, the importance of having a home escape plan, and keeping smoke alarms in good working order.

Members especially enjoyed the hands-on fire blanket demonstration, and there were some excellent questions about batteries, fire extinguishers, and general home preparedness.

A huge thank you to Jacqui and Tony for delivering such an engaging, practical, and well-received session that helps keep our community safer.

We'd also like to extend our sincere thanks to the St Leonards Probus Club for hosting us and for the wonderful hospitality, including tea and biscuits.

Working together, we can all help reduce the risk of fire and keep our homes and community safe.

Last Sunday, we proudly completed our Fire Wise garden project, which began early last year.

Volunteers from St Leonards Community Care, Bellarine Landcare Indigenous Nursery and our Brigade Members came together to plant more than 220 native indigenous plants along the front of the station.

A very special Thank You goes to Fiona from Bellarine Landcare Indigenous Nursery in Drysdale, who designed the gardens and grew the plants including several species which were grown from seed collected from St Leonards McCarthy's Reserve.

We'd also like to sincerely thank Jenny and Malcolm from St Leonards Community Care for coordinating the planting across multiple days and for their hard work alongside our incredible Brigade Volunteers.

This project would not have been possible without the generous sponsorship from St Leonards Community Care, who funded many of the plants, and Rutherford Trees on Murradoc Road, who kindly donated the mulch used to prepare and complete the garden beds.

We are incredibly grateful for the support of local businesses, community groups and volunteers who have helped transform the land surrounding our fire station into beautiful local indigenous, Fire Wise gardens. Your generosity, passion and hands-on support have made this project possible.

We can't wait to watch these gardens grow and flourish over the coming years.

Thank you again to everyone who contributed to this wonderful project 🫶

Today marks the beginning of National Volunteer Week, and we thought we’d share some photos from our last training night.

This session focused on Electric Vehicles and the emergency procedures required during an accident or vehicle fire.

As technology continues to evolve, ongoing training helps ensure our volunteers are prepared with the knowledge and skills needed to respond safely and effectively.

A big thank you to all of our volunteers for the time, commitment, and dedication you continue to give to our community.
