To celebrate International Women’s Day, UN Youth QLD is hosting WoMUN, a day catered for young women with an interest or passion in international relations, gender equality, and intersectionality. WoMUN aims to foster a safe and comfortable environment for young women in high school to develop their skills in public speaking, diplomacy, and negotiation, and to explore the importance of intersectional feminism. Our theme for WoMUN is ‘Balancing the Scales’; feminism and gender equality cannot happen without an intersectional approach to rights, justice and action.
For our first session of the day, delegates will have the opportunity to hear from a panel of exceptional women who all actively champion intersectional feminism. The delegates will have time to ask their own questions of the panellists and gain insight into their respective fields and their views on feminism and intersectionality. Our second session of the day will be a workshop, where delegates will have the opportunity to interact with one another, explore the role of feminism in international and domestic spaces, and learn about the importance of intersectional feminism. The day will conclude with a model United Nations focused on addressing current women’s issues, offering these young women the space to discuss and tackle complex problems.
