⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER WARNING – STANLEY & SURROUNDING DISTRICTS ⚠️
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting heavy rain, damaging winds and thunderstorms across North East Victoria over the next 48 hours, with the worst conditions expected from Wednesday afternoon through to Thursday.
Rainfall totals of up to 100mm are possible across parts of the North East. River rises and flooding are expected, with flood watches and warnings likely to expand as the event develops.
Residents should also be aware of the potential for:
- Heavy rainfall and local flash flooding
- Damaging winds bringing down trees and powerlines
- Increased risk of landslides and debris flows in fire-affected areas
- Snow lowering to around 1000m from Friday
Now is the time to prepare:
✅ Secure loose outdoor items and prepatr your property for heavy rain and high wind.
✅ Avoid unnecessary travel during the worst of the weather.
✅ Never drive through floodwater.
✅ Stay well clear of fallen trees and powerlines.
✅ Monitor warnings via the VicEmergency App, BOM and VicTraffic for road closures.
With school holidays underway, extra traffic is expected across the region. If your travel isn't essential, consider postponing it until conditions improve.

Hi all,
The first phase of our plan to significantly reduce high fuel loads along Old Stanley Road was successfully completed yesterday, with the support of crews from Stanley and neighbouring brigades across the district. A big thank you to everyone involved in preparing for and conducting the burn - their effort and professionalism made this a safe and effective operation.Thanks also to the Stanley residents adjacent to the site who bore the brunt of the smoke and traffic - I can assure you we worked to complete the work as quickly as possible.
This section of road is particularly important, carrying telecommunications and electricity infrastructure into Stanley, and serving as a backup access route to and from Beechworth in emergencies.
During preparation works, there was an incident that resulted in a power outage, which we recognise had an impact on the community, particularly local businesses. We understand the inconvenience this caused and appreciate everyone’s patience. The circumstances around the incident are being reviewed.
The burn itself achieved its objectives and is part of an ongoing effort to reduce fire risk across the Stanley area.

Hi all,

FYI - across Friday (today) CFA volunteers from across the district are working to prepare Old Stanley Rd for tomorrow's planned burn. You may see CFA vehicles moving around town during the day.

Please note that we are intending to conduct some roadside burning along Old Stanley Road this coming Saturday. This will depend on weather conditions, with the final decision being made on the day.

Stanley Rural Fire Brigade 100 Years of Service

In 2027, the Stanley Rural Fire Brigade will celebrate 100 years of service to the Stanley community.

Planning has now commenced to honour this very special milestone, and we are inviting the Stanley community to share any photos, memorabilia and stories.

A heartfelt thanks to the Stanley Community and visitors for their generosity today. The Stanley Rural Fire Brigade collection raised $2,605.10 for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal. I am told that the total for Beechworth and surrounds was over $30,000, our highest total ever for this most worthwhile cause.
