Labor In Lowan

Labor In Lowan In the Victorian electorate of Lowan there are two local branches - Stawell and Wimmera (based in Horsham). New members always welcome.

Lowan falls into two Federal seats - Wannon and Mallee. Local branches promote the policies of the ALP and assist in the organisation of election campaigns, participate in fundraising activities and members are involved in candidate selection. This page is to keep you updated about what the state Andrews and federal Albanese Labor Governments are doing to help all Victorians and Australians.

🖤💛❤️ National Reconciliation Week ❤️💛🖤

This week is an opportunity to listen, learn and reflect - and to celebrate the incredible Aboriginal leaders helping shape our communities here in Western Victoria.

One of those people is local legend Corrina Eccles.

Many people across our region will know Corrina through her work delivering cultural education programs, advocating for recognition of Wadawurrung heritage, and helping people better understand the deep connection First Peoples have to Country.

What has always stood out to me about Corrina is her generosity in sharing knowledge and creating space for important conversations about history, identity, truth-telling and respect.

Her leadership continues to help build stronger relationships, deeper understanding and stronger connections across our communities.

Western Victoria is richer for her work, guidance and generosity.

Because reconciliation starts with listening, learning and walking forward together.

MYTH vs REALITY

Claims that renewables will cover 70% of Victoria’s agricultural land come from an early hypothetical modelling exercise, not the Renewable Energy Zone plan adopted by Victoria.

The Renewable Energy Zones announced in May 2026 cover about 7.9% of the state’s land area, but the actual physical footprint of renewable infrastructure is expected to be less than 1% of Victoria’s landmass.

Most farming can continue within these zones, just as it already does around many wind farms today.

Facts matter. Let’s have conversations based on evidence, not fear campaigns.

At Sundays “No Sunbury Incinerator Rally,” I witnessed an attendee of the rally threaten to physically assault and harm another member of our community.

Yesterday I spoke to the person who received that threat and I can confirm this individual is considering referring the matter to Victoria Police.

Under Section 23 of the Summary Offences Act 1966, you do not need to make physical contact to be charged with an offence- a threat of violence in itself is a chargeable offence and penalties range depending on circumstance.

This important local rally was attended by a broad cross section of our community, including a number of kids.

The vast majority of attendees conducted themselves respectfully and it is immensely disappointing that this incident occurred.

In recent times, I, my family and my staff have also been subject to and witnessed an increase in aggression and threatening behaviour from some in our community.

Advocating respectfully and passionately makes our democracy stronger and better.

Threats of harm or violence damage our democratic freedoms, are against the law and won’t be tolerated.

To all those in our community (most of you) who are respectful and decent in how you go about raising your views and advocating for your issue, thank you, it is valued and appreciated.

2026 marks nine years of an enduring roadmap... but have you truly sat with the words that have gripped the nation?

To mark the 9th anniversary of the Uluru Statement, we're bringing the Uluru Statement from the Heart directly onto your feed.

Many people think the movement began and ended with the Referendum. But the truth is, the 2023 vote was a moment of political loss, not a defeat. It has only sharpened the case for genuine structural reform and the constitutional recognition of First Nations peoples.

We cannot settle for an institutionally 'safe' status quo that makes no demands on the state. The status quo isn’t working. True reconciliation requires structural change.
