Today our volunteers had a working bee to give the side of our station a makeover. We would like to thank our members for their hard work today, and provide a special shout-out to the team at Tannery Lane Sand and Soil for donating some high quality landscaping materials for use during our project.

👷‍♂️Improvements at Strathfieldsaye Fire Station👷🏼‍♀️

Strathfieldsaye FB were successful in the 2024/2025 Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP), provided by the Victorian State Government.

Strathfieldsaye FB identified the need to improve the accessibility, safety and useability of the rear yard of the fire station by increasing the concreted area. This area has previously been loose gravel and dirt.

Works have concluded to improve the rear of the station, allowing members to safety train in this area, as well as conduct equipment checks, clean the trucks and equipment and host community events on a solid surface.

Thanks to Andrew Fookes Construction for doing a great job to improve our fire station, improving our ability to service our community!

Strathfieldsaye Fire Brigade is 100% Volunteer ran, so we rely heavily on community donations and grants to be able to access project like this.

Smoke starting to move into the area.

The smoke drifting into our area this morning from fires all the way down on the Great Ocean Rd.

Please remain vigilant - if you see flames or a new fire starting, call 000 immediately.

However, if you only see smoke without any visible fire, reconsider that call. Emergency services are already aware of the fires causing this smoke.

What to do:
✅ Call 000 if you see flames or fire
✅ Check VicEmergency, emergency.vic.gov.au or the VicEmergency app for current fire and air quality information and advice.
✅ Keep an eye on conditions around your property
✅ If it's just smoke drifting through - no need to panic or phone it in

Stay safe, stay informed, and thanks for looking out for our community!

😍 We Love our Community 😍

Strathfieldsaye Fire Brigade has finally taken a break after multiple continuous efforts at the Harcourt/Ravenswood South complex.

We wanted to take this opportunity to extend our sincere gratitude to the people who have been supporting us, while we support other communities.

During the last fortnight, we received so many generous donations in the form of food, water and electrolytes. These supplies keep our fireys full and energized to continue the hard work.

We received so many generous donations from members of our local community, as well as a local businesses. While we can't possible name every individual who has supported us so far, we wish to thank a few businesses who have made significant contributions:

Dough Si Dough Bakery - Strathfieldsaye
Say Cheese Pizza - Strathfieldsaye
Bridgewater Bakery
Lions Club of Bendigo
Country Women's Association - Bendigo Northern
Washateria Bendigo

🦘When the flames subside 🦘

Last night looked a little bit different for our night shift crew. We've had a continuous presence at Harcourt and Mount Alexander since Friday afternoon when the event first commenced.

With cooler conditions, favorable winds and continued efforts of volunteers, it's believed the majority of the fire activity is contained.

This allowed our crews to take a moment last night. They were quietly moving down a road that had been decimated by fire when they were met with a scared but courageous possum who was interested in what we were doing in his home.

He declined the offer of water, but the fact that he allowed our crews so close suggests to us that he has had a horrible few days.

We love team Strathfieldsaye! 🔥💪🏻🚒

Your local brigade has been heavily involved with the fires currently happening in our region. Yesterday, both Strathfieldsaye Tankers 1 and 2 were called to multiple fires/events, including forming part of the initial attack on a fire in Sedgwick. Both Tankers spent the night on the fire ground, where they patrolled roadsides, assisted with asset protection, and extinguishing hotspots. In total, we had 14 crew members on the ground, with a number of other members assisting with operational needs remotely.

After a rest period today, Strathfieldsaye has again supplied another crew along with one of our tankers to continue helping the firefighting effort.

We want to thank our dedicated volunteers who are currently giving up their time to protect life and property, and also our wonderful community, who have been so supportive of our efforts in the last 24-48 hours.

Please remember the fire situation is ongoing, and to follow any advice published through CFA or the VicEmergency app. Our thoughts are also with those who have been affected by these current events.

⚠️ Important community message ⚠️

Fire weather tomorrow accross Victoria, and our region in particular, is expected to be the most catastrophic seen in years.

It is important for you to take the following actions:

- If you live in a high risk area, leave tonight. Do not wait for conditions to worsen. Roads may become unusable or unsafe if impacted by fire or smoke, and emergency vehicles may be responding.

- If you live in a ‘lower risk area’ (housing estates, townships), you still need to review your fire plan now.

- If leaving or reviewing your fire plan, be aware of what exit routes you can take, consider where you can go (friend or relative etc), which items or medications you may need to bring with you, and familiarise yourselves with your local ‘place of last resort’ if necessary. In Strathfieldsaye, this is the oval located next to the Strathfieldsaye Primary School (Situated between Club Court and Uxbridge Street).

- Install the ‘Vicemergency’ app on your mobile device so that you can monitor any incidents near you.

We would like to assure the community that Strathfieldsaye Fire Brigade is prepared and ready to respond to emergencies tomorrow if required. While we hope nothing eventuates, we have capable crews standing-by for both of our tankers. 🚒
