πŸŽ‰ May 28! πŸŽ‰
Let’s play today and everyday!

Today is WORLD PLAY DAY!

At a time when many communities face isolation, discrimination, conflict, or social division, play reminds us of something essential: everyone deserves a place to belong, express themselves, and be heard.

Play creates bridges between generations, cultures, abilities, and experiences. It opens spaces where children, families, seniors, and communities can meet beyond differences and rebuild trust, empathy, and cooperation.

This is your moment to act for inclusion through play! Byron Shire is destined to PLAY!

πŸ‘‰ How will you celebrate World Play Day?

πŸ‘‰ What actions are you creating to make play accessible to everyone?

Together, let’s show that play can help build more inclusive, caring, and peaceful societies.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mums, grandmas, carers and mother figures in our Byron Shire community πŸ’›πŸŒΈ

Today we celebrate the love, patience, creativity and endless care you bring to your families every single day. Thank you for the stories you read, the games you play, the cuddles you give, and the memories you help create through play and connection.

From all of us at the Byron Shire Toy Library, we hope your day is filled with love, laughter, coffee, cuddles and maybe even a little quiet time β˜€οΈπŸ§ΈπŸš’πŸ€

There is no right way to play, and that's what makes it powerful! πŸ’₯

Play is how kids explore, experiment and figure out the world around them. It might look messy, noisy, or completely unexpected... and that's exactly the point. Whether it's a toy from the toy library or something from the bottom of the kitchen draw, it all counts.

So today, let them lead. Follow their ideas, make a little space, and watch the magic unfold!

πŸŽ‰Day 58 to World Play Day – May 28! πŸŽ‰

The countdown is on… and play is calling 🌍✨

In just 58 days, we will celebrate World Play Day (WPD) β€” a global moment to recognize the essential role of play in building inclusive, creative, and connected societies.

In today’s world, marked by conflicts, uncertainty, and division, play is more important than ever. It creates spaces for dialogue, healing, resilience, and hope β€” especially for children and communities affected by crisis.

As highlighted by the new President of the ITLA:

β€œPlay is not only a right β€” it is a powerful driver for inclusion, learning, and social transformation. Today, more than ever, in a world facing conflict and instability, playing together helps us rebuild connection, dignity, and peace.”

Whether you're a toy library, educator, volunteer, or play advocate: This is your moment!

πŸ‘‰ What are you planning for May 28?
πŸ‘‰ What inspiring actions have you already led?
πŸ‘‰ What ideas could spark others across the world?

Let’s make this celebration visible, collective, and impactful.

πŸ“£ Call to Action:

If you feel supporting us as volunteer is for you please reach out, we always need a helping hand be it for 2 hours per week or more! We need help in running the library during our opening days Monday, Wed and Thursdays, organising or repairing toys and even managing finances and marketing! Get in touch uf this is for you!

πŸ‘‰ For every $1 invested in a toy library, $4.22 of social value is created.

That’s the headline finding from our new independent report, Valuing Play: The Social Impact of Toy Libraries in Australia.

We’ve always seen the impact in our communities. Now we have the evidence to back it up.
The research shows toy libraries help:

🧸 Build strong home learning environments
πŸ’› Reduce financial stress for families
🀝 Increase social connection and community participation
🌱 Support sustainability through sharing and reuse

All families reported benefits, including families raising children with disability or developmental delay.

Toy libraries are a low-cost, high-impact investment in children, families and communities.
