🚒 Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb 👨‍🚒

On Saturday 12 September 2026, firefighters and emergency services personnel from across Australia — and around the world — will descend on Melbourne to take on the gruelling 28-floor climb at Crown Metropol, raising vital funds for cancer research and crisis support.

Six of our members will tackle the climb in up to 25 kg of turnout gear and breathing apparatus, symbolising the significant physical and mental burdens faced daily by our first responders and their families. Some will even complete the climb “on air” using a self-contained breathing apparatus, adding an extra level of difficulty to an already demanding challenge.

This incredible event raises funds for:
- Lifeline
- Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
- 000 Foundation

These organisations play a crucial role in supporting those affected by cancer, mental health challenges, and su***de.

We’re extremely proud that six members from Sunbury Fire Brigade will be taking part in this event. Over the coming weeks, we’ll introduce each of our climbers — stay tuned to learn more about their stories and motivations.

Every donation makes a real difference. By supporting this cause, you’re helping these vital charities and standing behind our crew as they take on this inspiring challenge. 💪🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️👨‍🚒

Last night our members stepped up for some isolated structure firefighting training 🚒🔥🏠

We ran a scenario with a primary appliance responding first, followed shortly after by a second tanker to supply water and additional resources. Timing, coordination, and communication were key — and our crew leaders really put in the work to keep everything running smoothly.

The conditions? Less than ideal. 🌧️ Dark, wet, and a bit chilly — but that’s the reality of the job. We don’t get to choose the environment we’re called into, so our training reflects exactly that.

Proud of the effort and resilience shown by everyone involved.

Our resident gnomes will hopefully be making their way to Bunnings tomorrow for advice on smoke alarms for their homes. Smoke alarms aren’t expensive, so you could say it’s an eco-gnome-ical way of being fire safe.

We think our fire truck lunchboxes will make the perfect mobile home for them. For $25, it's certainly affordable in this cost of living crisis. Eftpos available.

Gnome doubt we will see you at Bunnings from 10 -3 tomorrow.
