⚡ Our training night was absolutely electrifying! ⚡

Recently Sunbury SES welcomed Greg Johnson from Energy Safe Victoria for a hands-on session all about electrical safety during emergencies.

From storm damage to flood response, one of the biggest reminders was that just because the power is off at the switchboard doesn’t mean the danger is gone. With more homes now fitted with solar panels and battery systems, electricity can still be present when you least expect it.

As volunteers, we never stop learning. Nights like these help ensure our crews have the knowledge and skills to respond safely, protecting both ourselves and the community when it matters most.

A huge thank you to Greg and the team at Energy Safe Victoria for taking the time to share their expertise. We really appreciate your support in helping keep our volunteers safe and switched on. 🔌🚨

Raising awareness of electrical risks during emergencies, Energy Safe’s Greg Johnson (Solar and Domestic Compliance Officer) joined SES Sunbury Unit volunteers for an in-depth session on staying safe from electrical hazards in the field. ✅

Our thanks to Sunbury SES for taking the time to strengthen their knowledge around electrical safety in emergency response settings.

⚠️ The key takeaway: even if the switchboard has been turned off during dangerous conditions (storm and flood events), live currents can still pose a risk, due to alternative supplies such as solar and battery systems.

When our emergency services are equipped with the right information about energy risks and how to manage them, it helps keep responders – and the communities they serve – safe.

We’re proud to support the SES with practical safety education that makes a real difference on the ground.

🌿 Tonight, our Sunbury SES members swapped training in the rain for a wonderful evening together at our Annual Unit Dinner at Bambsh Restaurant.

It was a fantastic opportunity to hang up the orange uniforms for a few hours, enjoy an incredible meal, and spend time together as a team.

A huge thank you to the amazing staff at Bambsh Restaurant for their warm hospitality and outstanding service. We're proud to support local businesses that, in turn, support Sunbury SES and our community.

Here's to great food, great company, and an even stronger community! 💙🧡

A great room full of potential future SES volunteers! 💙🧡

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Volunteer Information Night to learn more about what it’s like to be part of the Sunbury SES Unit.

It was fantastic to see so many people interested in giving back to their community, learning new skills and finding out how they can make a real difference when people need help most.

A big thank you also to our members who shared their stories and experiences of volunteering.

If you couldn’t make it but are still thinking about joining, it’s not too late. We’d love to hear from you! Send us a message or visit the VICSES website to find out more.

Come for the community service, stay for the family. 🤝✨

When you join Sunbury SES, you aren't just signing up for shifts. You're joining a tight-knit team of locals who have each other's backs through thick and thin.

Whether we are responding to a complex rescue, packing sandbags in the pouring rain, or just sharing a laugh over a post-training coffee at the station, the bonds formed here last a lifetime. We train together, look out for each other, and celebrate together.

If you’ve been looking for a place to belong, a way to meet incredible local people, and a team that feels like family, our doors are open. 🧡

It’s 2:00 AM, the wind is howling, and a tree has just come down through a local family's roof. 🌪️🏠

When the pager goes off, our volunteers leave their warm beds. Why? Because the look of relief on a neighbour's face when the orange trucks pull up makes every single second worth it.

Volunteering with Sunbury SES isn’t just about the skills you learn; it's about being the safety net for our community when severe weather hits. It’s about knowing that because of your team, a family is safe and a home is protected.

If you want to feel a deeper connection to your community and make a tangible difference right here in Sunbury, our frontline crew has a spot for you.

Don’t think you have what it takes to wear the orange? Think again. 🛠️🧡

A common myth is that you need to be a seasoned tradesperson, an athlete, or an emergency expert to join Sunbury SES.

The truth? Our crew is made up of your local baristas, accountants, teachers, retirees, and much more.
We don’t expect you to know how to use a chainsaw or navigate a flood rescue on day one—we teach you everything you need to know.

If you have a passion for helping your neighbours, a willingness to learn, and a couple of hours a week to give back to Sunbury, you’re exactly who we’re looking for.

🧡 Proud to serve, proud to support. 🏳️‍🌈

At Sunbury SES, our mission is to look after our community in times of crisis—and that means every member of our community.

True resilience comes from diversity. This Pride Month (June), we have been celebrating the LGBTQIA+ members within our own orange family, as well as the vibrant community we serve across Sunbury and its surrounds.

To our quiet allies, our out-and-proud members, and those still finding their way: we see you, we support you, and our door is always open.
