🎃Let's get spooky with Lisa - our Home Library Service Coordinator for our Halloween staff profile edition. As usual, we asked Lisa three questions about all things books and libraries... read on if you dare....

1. What is the book that inspired you as a child?

It’s impossible for me to pick one book because I loved so many growing up, particularly several book series that will always be special and nostalgic to me. These books inspired me to love stories and the wonder and joy they can bring.

I loved the magic and charm of Enid Blyton’s Faraway Tree series, and I read them over and over again. I then moved onto The Baby-Sitters Club; I couldn’t wait until each new book in the series was released. Living in the perfect world of Sweet Valley followed, with Sweet Valley High being my favourite series in that long running collection. Point Horror and R.L. Stine’s Fear Street for young adults, were hugely popular in the 90s and this started my love of horror fiction, which is when I discovered Christopher Pike. He was a prolific author during my early teen years, and I quickly became obsessed with his stories and the awesome cover art displayed on his books. Pike’s books were wild and crazy and so out of this world, that they were like no other stories by any other author, then and now (in my opinion). His adult novel The Season of Passage, which I first read when I was 13, and have read many times since, remains my favourite book of all time.

2. What do you love about libraries?
I love libraries because they are a welcoming place for everyone. It is a space where you can do so many things or just sit and do nothing at all! And being surrounded by books ….. how wonderful is that?

3. What are you listening to at the moment?
I am reading The Store by Bentley Little - horror in everyday life!! It’s great so far.
