Financial abuse can leave victim-survivors facing years of debt and financial hardship, long after an abusive relationship has ended.

This week, we’ve brought together advocates, frontline services, consumer groups and financial professionals for roundtables on how we can better prevent and respond to financial abuse.

We heard directly from those working with victim-survivors about how our tax, social security and financial systems can be exploited to perpetuate abuse, and what needs to change.

These conversations are helping inform our next steps to strengthen protections, close loopholes and ensure victim-survivors aren’t left paying for someone else’s abuse.
