CID advocates Jim Simpson and Sabrina Forte spoke to ABC News about the federal government's cuts to the NDIS and what life was like before the scheme existed.

Sabrina’s son, Sebastian, has lived half his life before the NDIS and now half with its support. The difference is stark. Before the NDIS, the family was massively out of pocket paying for the therapies that Sebastian needed. He now leads a full life with NDIS supports. “Anything that takes that away is really scary”, Sabrina said.

Yesterday, CID presented to the Supported Decision Making inquiry at the NSW Legislative Assembly.

We told the inquiry that we think people with intellectual disability should be able to make choices about their lives and finances. That means finding meaningful alternatives to guardianship and financial management.

It is time for the Ageing and Disability Commission to take the lead on supported decision making.
