🚧 CHAPMAN STREET ROAD ACCESS UPDATE 🚧

Lower Murray Water has advised that further works are required to repair an unexpected sewer collapse in Chapman Street, between Murlong Street and Mellor Grove.

As a result, road access disruptions are now expected to remain in place until 30 October 2026.

🗑️ Kerbside waste collection
Due to restricted access, waste collection services may need to use an alternate collection point during this period.

📬 Cleanaway will place a letter on affected bins outlining the collection arrangements and any requirements for residents.

Please follow the instructions provided by Cleanaway until the repair works are complete and normal collection services can resume.

🙏 Thank you for your cooperation and understanding while these essential works are carried out.

📢 Community Notice | Woorinen South Community Centre 🚧

👷‍♂️ Council is working with a local plumbing contractor to replace the existing septic tank servicing the Woorinen South Community Centre.

🚫 As a result of these works, the public toilets located at the rear of the centre are currently unavailable. Please do not enter the cordoned-off area for your own safety.

🚻 Access to the public toilets is expected to resume next week upon completion of the works.

🙏 Council thanks the community for its patience and understanding during this important upgrade. 🛠️✨

📞 VOICEMAILS FOR THE VICTORIAN STATE ELECTION

Another name for the Murray Plains ballot paper… another number to dial. 📱☎️

This time, Mayor Stuart King is leaving a message for Zoe Cook, recently pre-selected as the Victorian Greens candidate.

Our full wish list is about a mile long - but we’re a helpful Council, so we’re happy to narrow it down to a few election-winning announcements. 😉

📞 Zoe, give us a call back - we've got the itinerary ready!

📞 VOICEMAILS FOR THE VICTORIAN STATE ELECTION

Walshy’s handed over the keys… so this one’s for Brett Hosking for Murray Plains! 👋

We spotted Brett cruising around Swan Hill this week - the signage on the ute looks good, Brett, but there are a few other signs we’d really like to see. 😉

Cr King has left a voicemail with a few suggestions: a new Swan Hill Bridge, investment in Swan Hill District Hospital, better roads, improved sporting facilities and the infrastructure we need to unlock more housing.

It’s great to see you in town, Brett. Next time, we’d love you to bring an announcement with you - preferably one with a fair few zeros on the end.💰

📞 Our phone’s on, Brett. Give us a call!

🐛 THE VERY HUNGRY MAYOR’S MAD MINUTE! 🍎🍐🍓

Coming to you this week from Nyah District PS

Cr King may have missed the memo that the Book Week parade was on Tuesday… but that didn’t stop the Very Hungry Mayor from holding his head high and reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar to the entire school this morning. 😂🐛

This week he’s also talking about:
🏉🏐 Finals fever - Council is, of course, completely impartial about who wins this weekend. The kids at Nyah? Not so much....
🌿 A big thank you to our Parks and Gardens team and the many volunteers who have worked hard to get our grounds and facilities looking fantastic for finals.
💰 We’re also continuing to make plenty of noise for our fair share of funding for the facilities that help our towns host weekends just like this one.

And next week, Rural Councils Victoria rolls into Swan Hill for their annual forum - so please make them feel welcome. There’ll be plenty of rural councillors around town… although hopefully none dressed as caterpillars!

Good luck to everyone taking to the field and court this weekend!

🏆 Finals are here! 🏆

Good luck to everyone in the Central Murray Football Netball League kicking off their finals campaign this weekend!

It’s set to be a huge weekend for local football and netball, with Swan Hill Showgrounds and Alan Garden Reserve hosting the League’s first-ever finals double header.

Our Parks and Gardens team has been flat out getting the grounds ready, even preparing a warm-up track to cater for the extra football matches and give players plenty of space to prepare before the big game.

👏Best of luck to all teams, players and supporters - we’re looking forward to a huge weekend of finals action!

♻A Smarter Approach to Road Construction ♻

As part of the Karinie Street project, Council is using in-situ pavement stabilisation with foamed bitumen to recycle and strengthen the existing road pavement.

Instead of removing the existing pavement and bringing in large quantities of new material, this approach allows suitable materials to be reused right where they are.

The result?
✅Less material sent to landfill
✅Fewer heavy truck movements
✅Reduced diesel use
✅Significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions
All while delivering a strong, durable road pavement.

📞 VOICEMAILS FOR THE VICTORIAN STATE ELECTION - New candidate, new voicemail 📞

Next up in our voicemail series is recently announced One Nation candidate for Murray Plains, Garner Smith.

We're leaving a pretty simple message: election commitments matter - and Swan Hill needs a new bridge!

Now we’ve got a local candidate, Garner, consider this your official invitation to come to Swan Hill, have a look around and hear about what our region needs.

And if you happen to arrive with a big bridge funding commitment in your back pocket… even better. 😂

📞 Garner, give us a call - we’d love to show you around!

📞 VOICEMAILS FOR THE VICTORIAN STATE ELECTION

Jade, did you think we’d forgotten about you? 🤔

Next on Mayor Cr Stuart King’s call list is current Member for Mildura, Jade Benham MP...

With an election coming up, we thought it was the perfect time to send through a little wish list…

👉 More funding to keep the Robinvale Riverfront transformation rolling
👉 Finally getting that Piangil bus stop ticked off the list
👉 And while we’ve got you… roads, roads and more roads! 🛣️

You know the drill, Jade - give us a buzz back! 📞
