As thunderstorms move across NSW, lightning strikes have been detected in areas including along the northern and southern borders. Property owners are encouraged to check their properties for any signs of new fires that may have started from lightning.

A southerly change is also slowly progressing up the coast with the potential for gusty conditions ahead of the change. Stay alert and report any new fires immediately to Triple Zero (000).

A return to more Moderate fire danger returns to most areas of NSW tomorrow with milder conditions.

A Total Fire Ban is in place today, Monday 12 October 2026, for the Greater Sydney and Greater Hunter area with forecast hot and windy conditions across parts of the state, increasing the fire danger.

It’s been a big week at Mount Panorama, and while the drivers have been pushing their limits, our RFS crews have been working alongside emergency services partners to keep campers and spectators safe at the offical_v8supercars Repco Bathurst 1000.

The good news? No major issues for our crews so far, and that’s exactly how we’d like to finish!

Don’t be caught unprepared like De Pasquale, be a winner like Kostecki! When it comes to campfires, a little preparation can be the difference between a podium finish and an early retirement. Keep your fire contained, never leave it unattended and make sure it’s completely extinguished before you leave the Mountain.

Because the last thing anyone wants is a campfire making an unscheduled appearance off-track!

With forecast hot and windy conditions tomorrow, let’s keep the action on the circuit and the campfires under control!

A Total Fire Ban will be in place tomorrow, Monday 12 October 2026, for the Greater Sydney area with forecast Extreme fire danger and the Greater Hunter area with forecast High fire danger. Warm and windy conditions are forecast across parts of the state, increasing the fire danger.

Today we remember the emergency services volunteers who paid the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their communities, at the annual Emergency Services Volunteer Memorial Service.

The names of volunteers enshrined on the Memorial recognise personnel from NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW SES, Marine Rescue NSW and VRA Rescue NSW.

Welcome home, Marie Bashir!

After more than two months helping protect communities across the United States, our Large Air Tanker Bomber 210 has arrived back at her home at RAAF Richmond this afternoon.

During her time in the US, Marie Bashir supported fire agencies across 12 states, making more than 255 drops on 84 fires and delivering more than 3.6 million litres of fire retardant.

Now she’s back and after some final preparation, will be ready to deploy and support communities here in NSW over the coming days.

A huge thank you to our aviation crews who worked tirelessly throughout the deployment and helped support firefighters and communities across the US.

Welcome home, Marie Bashir. We’re glad to have you back.

Advice: Wynyard Av Fire, Rossmore (Liverpool LGA) - Monitor conditions.

A grass fire is burning in the vicinity of Wynyard Avenue and King Street, Rossmore, in south-western Sydney.

More than a dozen Rural Fire Service crews are on scene and working from behind a number of properties to contain the fire.

People in the area may notice some smoke as firefighters work to bring the fire under control.

People nearby should continue to monitor conditions and stay up to date with the latest information.

Crews at the base camp in Tenterfield were treated to a beautiful rainbow this afternoon as a number of storms moved through the area.

The storms brought some welcome rain, but also a number of lightning strikes. Crews will continue to monitor the area over the coming days for any new fire activity or outbreaks.

Thankfully, all of the fires crews have been working on in the Tenterfield area are now contained.

Firefighters will continue patrolling containment lines, mopping up and blacking out hotspots to ensure the fires remain under control.

DID YOU CAMP THIS LONG WEEKEND?

Before you pack up and leave your campsite, make sure your campfire is completely out and cold.

- Use plenty of WATER to put your fire out.
- Don’t just bury it, hot coals can stay hidden underground and potentially reignite.

Pour water over the fire, stir the ashes and coals, then add more water until everything is cool to the touch.

Before you leave, take that extra few minutes to make sure your fire is well and truly out.

Put it out. Soak it. Stir it. Check it.

Advice: Jackadgery Fire (Clarence Valley LGA) - Monitor Conditions: Jackadgery

A fire continues to burn south of the Gwydir Highway in the Gibraltar Range National Park, in the vicinity of Jackadgery.

Firefighters will use today’s conditions to work to contain the fire. Residents and visitors in the Jackadgery area may notice an increase in firefighting activity, including additional firefighters and water-bombing helicopters as crews work to bring the fire under control.

There is currently no threat to homes. People in the area are advised to monitor conditions and stay up to date.
