This weekend we celebrate fathers, father figures and caregivers who help children feel
loved, safe, supported and connected.

With National Child Protection Week just around the corner, it’s a meaningful opportunity to recognise the important role that fathers and father figures can play in creating safe and nurturing environments where children can thrive.

From dads and grandfathers to uncles, brothers and other caring role models —
showing up with love, patience, respect and presence matters.

🗣️ Every Conversation Matters.

Listening to children, encouraging open and respectful conversations, and giving children opportunities to have their voices heard are all important ways we can help keep children safe.

This Father’s Day, we thank the father figures who walk alongside children with care, compassion and kindness. 💜

When trust is broken, healing takes time. ❤️‍🩹

When Zara’s children disclosed that they had been sexually abused by someone they trusted, her world was turned upside down.

She believed her children. But she was also left questioning how it could have happened—and whether she should have seen the signs.

The truth is, the responsibility for abuse always lies with the person who chooses to abuse. It is never the child’s fault, and it is never the parent’s fault.
Through the Jannawi Family Program, Zara and her children received specialised, trauma-informed support to help them navigate the impact of what had happened.

For the children, this included support to feel safe again, manage anxiety and disrupted sleep, and cope with challenges at school. For Zara, counselling helped her understand grooming and manipulation, work through feelings of guilt, and rebuild confidence in her ability to protect and support her children.

Recovery from trauma doesn’t happen overnight. It takes safety, trust, specialist support and time.
At Jannawi, we walk alongside children and families through these difficult journeys—helping them rebuild their sense of safety, strength and hope for the future.

If you or someone you know is concerned about a child’s safety, seeking professional support can bean important first step.

Reflective Practice & Self-Care 🌿

In the work we do, creating space for others often means carrying complex stories, challenging situations and difficult emotions.

That’s why reflective practice and self-care are not extras — they are essential to sustainable practice. 💜

Reflective practice gives us an opportunity to pause and consider:

✨ What am I noticing?
✨ How are my experiences, values and assumptions influencing my practice?
✨ What might I be finding challenging, and why?
✨ What have I learned from this experience?
✨ What do I need to support myself to continue this work well?

We cannot always control the demands of our work, but we can create intentional space to reflect, reconnect and care for ourselves.

When we look after ourselves, we create greater capacity to be present, thoughtful and responsive in our work with children, families and communities.

💜 Pause. Reflect. Reconnect. Care.

🌏✨ International Youth Day 2026 ✨🌏

Today we celebrate young people — their voices, ideas, creativity, resilience and their power to shape the future.

At Jannawi, we know that every young person deserves to feel heard, valued, safe and supported. When young people are given opportunities to participate, express themselves and have a say in the decisions that affect their lives, they can thrive.

💬 Young voices matter.
🤝 Young people deserve to be heard.
🌱 Their ideas can create change.
💛 Their wellbeing matters.

This International Youth Day, we recognise the incredible contribution young people make to our families, communities and society — and reaffirm the importance of creating spaces where every young person can belong and reach their potential.

Listen to young people. Include them. Support them. Invest in their future.

Healing Happens Beyond Four Walls 🌿🛶

Recovery from trauma isn’t confined to an office or counselling room. Sometimes healing begins on the water, in the quiet of nature, and through experiences that help people reconnect with themselves and the world around them.

At Jannawi, we believe trauma-informed support is holistic. Alongside therapeutic counselling and practical support, we create opportunities for children, young people and families to build confidence, experience joy, strengthen wellbeing, and reconnect with their own resilience.

Activities like kayaking provide more than just a day outdoors—they foster trust, reduce stress, encourage positive relationships, and remind people that healing can be found in moments of calm, connection and achievement.

Every journey towards recovery is unique. We’re privileged to walk alongside families as they rediscover hope, one experience at a time.

💙 Because healing isn’t just about surviving—it’s about creating opportunities to thrive.
