Over 250 friends and family of the Australians from Uganda community recently gathered to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of arrival in Australia at a Gala evening at the Australian National Maritime Meuseum. A 200-page Commemorative Book - 50 Years Journey - Tales of Trials, Tribulations & Triumphs was launched by Paul McCarthy. The evening, filled with gut-wrenching stories were shared by Dr Ameeta Patel, Dr Kiran Phadke, Dr Ramnik Shah, Shaira Hadwani, Dr Linette Gomes Sardinha and Ashak Nathwani.
Simon Chan outlined the role of the Museum with respect to migration. The museum also acknowledged Rehana Nathwani, Amyn Nathwani and Ashak Nathwani for the generous donation of the air conditioning system that enables the tours of HMAS Onslow - the submarine - to continue during the summer period. The night honoured too the memory of Samim Nathwani, who sadly passed away in 2019 as a result of the insidious Motor Neurone Disease (MND) "It was a wonderful 50 years reunion,, filled with with fun, food and laughter" committee chair Nathwani said.
