Closing the Bangkok Business Summit, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas detailed a new joint public-private drive, using a football framework to illustrate the roles: private industry acts as the "forwards" driving key growth sectors, whilst the government provides the "midfield" support to clear regulatory bottlenecks and the "defence" to maintain fiscal stability.
Backed by international partners including the World Bank, the strategy focuses on accelerating digital, low-carbon, and industrial infrastructure ahead of key milestones such as hosting the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings and pursuing OECD accession.

Continuing the Momentum from the Prime Ministerโ€™s Official Visit โ€” Adelaide | 26โ€“28 August 2026 ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ

Following the Prime Minister of Thailandโ€™s Official Visit to Australia from 17โ€“20 August 2026, the BOI Sydney Office was pleased to be in Adelaide last week to continue the momentum and create new opportunities for Australian businesses looking to engage with Thailand.

At our Thailand Investment Briefing & Networking Reception, we were honoured to be joined by H.E. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand to Australia, together with Martin Haese, South Australiaโ€™s Special Envoy to Southeast Asia for Trade and Investment; Francis Wong, Chairman of the Australia-ASEAN Business Forum; and Dale Foody, Vice President of the Australia Thailand Business Council.

A particular highlight was having Australian companies in the room that are already demonstrating what investment in Thailand can look like.

South Australian companies Vector Technologies and Green Gold Energy, together with Australian company Callington Group, have made significant investments in Thailand across advanced manufacturing and medical devices, renewable energy and battery storage, and specialty chemicals and R&D. It was also a pleasure to see all three companies engage with the Prime Minister during his Official Visit to Australia.

Earlier in the week, BOI Sydney also hosted โ€œThailand: Unlocking Growth for Australian SMEsโ€, a small and interactive roundtable exploring how Australian SMEs can leverage Thailandโ€™s talent, digital capabilities, local teams and business ecosystem to build capability and grow.

A big thank you to Joana Button from Scalify by Simple Scalable Solutions and Brendan Cunningham from ASW Consulting for sharing their practical experiences and perspectives with participants.

Whether you are exploring trade, partnerships, market opportunities, establishing a presence, or investing in Thailand, we encourage you to reach out to the BOI Sydney Office. If we are not the right organisation to assist directly, we will do our best to connect you with the right people.

BOI Sydney looks forward to continuing these conversations and supporting more Australian businesses to explore opportunities and grow their presence in Thailand.

Australian House of Representatives Speaker Milton Dick made his first visit to Thailand as speaker on August 24, meeting Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at Government House to advance bilateral cooperation under the Thailand-Australia Strategic Partnership.

The meeting followed Anutinโ€™s official visit to Australia last week, where the two officials also met. Dick conveyed Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albaneseโ€™s positive assessment of his recent talks with Anutin. The Thai premier thanked Australia for its hospitality and expressed readiness to turn recent discussions into practical cooperation in security, trade, investment, the economy, and people-to-people ties.

Anutin also reiterated Thailandโ€™s invitation for Albanese to make an official visit in 2027, when the two countries will celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Both governments are set to maintain high-level exchanges and pursue further cooperation arising from their recent discussions.

The two sides also discussed expanding parliamentary engagement, including exchanges through the Thailand-Australia Parliamentary Friendship Group. Thailand and Australia plan to advance their strategic partnership through closer ties among their governments, legislatures, business communities, and peoples, with an emphasis on practical benefits for both countries.
