CONSULATE CELEBRATES BICOL INC.’S COMMITMENT TO AID DISASTER RELIEF AND YOUTH EDUCATION

SYDNEY, 29 August 2026 - The Philippine Consulate General in Sydney joined the Bicol Communities League Incorporated (Bicol Inc.) for its annual Dance-O-Rama fundraiser, celebrating the organization’s long-standing dedication to community support. Representing Consul General Greg Marie C. Mariño, Vice Consul Diana Marie D. Jimenez-Leomo praised Bicol Inc. for leveraging music and fellowship to sustain vital grassroots initiatives, including its Calamity Fund and the Adopt-A-School Project, which directly benefit young students and disaster-affected communities in the Philippines.

Highlighting the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Australia, Vice Consul Jimenez-Leomo emphasized that the vibrant people-to-people connections nurtured by organizations like Bicol Inc. play a crucial role in strengthening the enduring friendship between both nations. She also took the opportunity to encourage eligible Filipino citizens within the diaspora to actively participate in the country’s democratic processes by registering for overseas voting at the Consulate General in Sydney ahead of the 2028 Philippine National Elections. PH CONSULATE GENERAL JOINS NARRA TRIBUTE TO FATHERS AND MOTHERS

30 August 2026, Sydney - The Philippine Consulate General in Sydney, New South Wales joined the members of the National Affiliation of Respectable and Responsible Associations Cooperative Ltd. (NARRA) for the latter’s annual Tribute to Fathers and Mothers held in Liverpool, NSW. The event honors selected individuals from the local community who have made significant contributions to the organization.

In her remarks, Consul General Greg Marie Mariño cited the sacrifices of many Filipinos who left their home country to build a new life for their families in Australia. She thanked NARRA for establishing their tradition, noting that “through your work in promoting Filipino arts and culture, nurturing Filipino talent, and engaging with the wider Australian community, you are preserving not only our cultural heritage but also the values that bind us together across generations.” END

PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN SYDNEY SUPPORTS PARTICIPANTS OF THE SYDNEY MARATHON AND SYDNEY MINI MARATHON

The Philippine Consulate General in Sydney joined thousands of runners and spectators for this year’s TCS Sydney Marathon weekend held from 29 to 30 August 2026 in Sydney, Australia.

The TCS Sydney Marathon, which officially became the Seventh World Marathon Major in November 2024, welcomed a record-breaking field of over 40,000 participants for its full marathon on Sunday and 12,500 participants for its 5-kilometer mini marathon Saturday event.

The Sydney Marathon brought together runners from all over the world, including the Philippines. Among the Filipino participants were Consul General Leah Victoria T. Carada of the Philippine Consulate General in Busan, who successfully completed the full marathon. Ms. Reichel P. Quiñones and Ms. Susanna Maria L. Mendiola of the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs and Consul Marianne I. Bringas of Sydney PCG took part in the mini marathon.

Led by Consul General Greg Marie C. Mariño, Philippine Consulate personnel cheered on Filipino runners along the route, celebrating their determination and achievement.

The Philippine Consulate General in Sydney congratulates all participants of the Sydney Marathon and Sydney Mini Marathon, and commends the Filipino participants for proudly representing the Philippines in this international sporting event. END

PH CONSULATE GENERAL JOINS PAMA IN CELEBRATING 34TH ANNIVERSARY WITH CHARITY BALL

Sydney, Australia — The Philippine Consulate General in Sydney joined the Philippine-Australian Medical Association (PAMA) in celebrating its 34th anniversary with a Met Gala-inspired Charity Ball themed “Threads of Healing: When Art, Fashion, and Medicine Unite” on 22 August 2025 in Parramatta, New South Wales. The milestone event brought together members of the Filipino-Australian community, healthcare professionals, partners, sponsors, and supporters in celebration of PAMA’s commitment to healthcare and community service.

A key highlight of the Charity Ball was PAMA’s upcoming 2027 Medical Mission to the Philippines, which aims to extend much-needed healthcare services to communities with limited access to medical care.

In her remarks, Consul General Greg Marie C. Mariño noted the significant contribution of Filipino healthcare professionals in Australia and around the world, emphasizing that their work extends well beyond hospitals and clinics. She expressed her appreciation to PAMA, as well as the organization’s officers, members, partners, and volunteers, for their strong involvement in humanitarian initiatives both in the Philippines and Australia.

The celebration also took on added significance as the Philippines and Australia commemorate 80 years of diplomatic relations. SYDNEY, 21 August 2026 - In observance of Buwan ng Wika, the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney organized an exclusive Sentro Rizal Film Club screening, for members of the Consulate and the Philippine Department of Tourism-Sydney, of the Hiligaynon film "Katung Adlaw Nga Nadula Ako Sa Kahanginan" (That Day When I Went Off Air) at the Bulwagang Jose Rizal for Consulate personnel, representatives from the Philippine Department of Tourism in Sydney, and their families.

The event further highlighted the rich diversity of Philippine regional languages and the resilience of Filipino cultural workers. By introducing regional cinema through the Sentro Rizal Film Club to personnel and their families, the Consulate sought to foster cultural diplomacy from within while creating a meaningful space to nurture internal connections.

In her remarks, Consul General Greg Marie C. Mariño emphasized the role of regional cinema in showcasing the country’s linguistic tapestry. She noted that experiencing a film in Hiligaynon (with English subtitles) strengthens ties among colleagues and family members through a shared cultural experience and also instills cultural pride and a deeper appreciation for Philippine languages in the younger generation.

The program also featured a video from the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino about the Buwan ng Wika 2026 theme, "Ang Wikang Filipino at AI: Kasangkapan sa Pananaliksik at Tulay sa Yaman ng Impormasyon." The video highlighted the expanding role of artificial intelligence (AI) in research and knowledge production within the Philippine context. It underscored how the national language continuously evolves and adapts alongside technological advancements, serving as an indispensable bridge for information while remaining a vital vessel of Filipino culture and identity.

The gathering allowed colleagues and their families to reflect on the importance of preserving local languages alongside modern technology as vital vehicles of identity and heritage. Through the initiative, the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Philippine linguistic diversity and celebrating the country's vibrant cultural identity across all generations.
