After four years of supporting workforce attraction, relocation, and settlement outcomes across regional Australia, Work+Stay will soon conclude operations as SSI transitions toward new funded workforce and employment initiatives.

Over the past four years, Work+Stay supported hundreds of candidates, families, employers, and communities through a model focused on more than recruitment alone, helping people feel supported, connected, and welcomed as they settled into regional life.

We’re also proud to share that SSI has recently secured new funding to support people seeking asylum into employment pathways and workforce participation opportunities, continuing aspects of the Work+Stay legacy through new initiatives focused on inclusion, opportunity, and community connection.

A new year feels like the right moment to share a road trip we never quite posted.
Back in September, Caroline spent time on the road across regional NSW, with three very different but equally memorable stops.
📍 Tenterfield
A generous conversation with Janet at Tenterfield Shire Council about the realities small councils face, the constant balancing act, and the critical role HR plays in keeping things moving when resources are tight.
📍 Port Macquarie
A reminder that workforce attraction can be deeply connected to place. A council team that genuinely cares about people, in a location where it is not hard to see why people would want to live and work.
📍 MidCoast Council
Introducing our work, making new connections, and admiring a council building set beside open fields and a duck pond. Hard not to feel a little workplace envy.
Looking back now, these moments feel especially relevant as we head into 2026. Different regions, different challenges, but the same underlying theme. Workforce issues are human, local, and best understood by showing up, listening and building relationships.
Grateful for the conversations, the places and the people who make this work so meaningful.
