The Consulate General of Malta in Sydney is pleased to highlight the upcoming performances by internationally acclaimed Maltese concert pianist Gabi Sultana - Pianist, who will be visiting Australia for a programme of concerts.

On Saturday, 5 September, Gabi Sultana will perform alongside Australian-Maltese cellist Chris Pidcock at St John’s College, University of Sydney. The programme will feature works by Steve Reich, Kate Moore, Maltese composer Véronique Vella, Walter Wolff and Claude Debussy.

You do not need to currently reside in Malta or hold citizenship to be considered. The Malta Golf National Team is committed to identifying and supporting golfers of Maltese descent, and there may be pathways available to assist with citizenship for those who qualify for our national programs. Santa Marija is celebrated on 15 August in Malta, and it is encouraging to see various Maltese associations and community groups across NSW continuing to mark the occasion with their own celebrations. Following an invitation from La Valette Social Centre, the Consul General was pleased to attend their Santa Marija celebration.

The evening also honoured the memory of the late Gregory Caruana, who during his lifetime played an important role in bringing the Santa Marija statue pictured in the photos from Malta to the Maltese community in NSW. The memory of Angelo Borg, who sadly passed away recently, was also honoured. Angelo dedicated many years to the Maltese community in NSW and, in recent years, volunteered his time at La Valette.

Maltese Concert Band NSW Inc. added to the evening with some of the much-loved marches traditionally heard at Maltese festas. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Santa Marija and to see this Maltese tradition continuing here in NSW.

Is-serata kienet ukoll okkażjoni biex titfakkar il-memorja tal-mibki Gregory Caruana, li kellu sehem importanti biex l-istatwa ta’ Santa Marija li tidher fir-ritratti tinġieb minn Malta għand il-komunità Maltija fi NSW. Ġiet imfakkra wkoll il-memorja ta’ Angelo Borg, li ħalliena reċentement. Angelo ddedika ħafna snin lill-komunità Maltija fi NSW u, f’dawn l-aħħar snin, kien jagħti l-ħin tiegħu bħala voluntier ġewwa La Valette.

Il-Maltese Concert Band żiedet mal-atmosfera tal-festa b’xi wħud mill-marċi tant magħrufa li jinstemgħu fil-festi Maltin. Kienet okkażjoni sabiħa biex tiġi ċċelebrata Santa Marija u biex naraw din it-tradizzjoni Maltija tkompli tinżamm ħajja fi NSW.

Consul General Anneliese Sammut was delighted to welcome Max Silva to our office today.

A second-generation Australian of Maltese descent, Max’s connection to Malta comes through his maternal grandparents, who were born in Malta. Although he has not visited Malta yet, he has learnt about our Islands through his grandparents - a connection beautifully reflected in his painting of his Nannu.

Max is a finalist in Young Archie 2026 with his painting ‘The Craft of Healing’, currently on display at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

It is always encouraging to meet young people who celebrate their Maltese heritage. 🇲🇹

Consul-on-the-Move: Brisbane and Mackay

Yesterday marked the conclusion of a successful Consul-on-the-Move visit to Brisbane and Mackay, held from 4–6 August in Brisbane and 7–8 August in Mackay.

Consul General, Anneliese Sammut, provided consular services across both locations, with a total of 113 applications processed.

In Brisbane, the Consul General was accompanied by Sandra Alexandra Micallef, Honorary Consul of Malta in Queensland. The Consulate extends its thanks to our Greek colleagues for kindly providing a venue for the consular appointments in Brisbane, in the spirit of European cooperation, as well as to the High Commission of Malta in Australia for assistance in preparing for the consular visit.

Consul General Anneliese Sammut, alongside fellow members of the NSW Consular Corps, was pleased to attend the Australian Business Summit Council’s Connect & Cheers networking evening last week.

The evening brought together representatives from the business sector, members of the diplomatic community, and professionals from across a range of sectors, providing an opportunity to foster new connections, exchange perspectives, and discuss opportunities for future collaboration.

Għat-tieni sena konsekuttiva, il-Konsulat Ġenerali ta’ Malta f’Sydney ħa sehem fil-Jum Internazzjonali organizzat mill-International Grammar School.

Matul il-ġurnata, il-Konslu Ġenerali tat preżentazzjonijiet lil gruppi ta’ studenti ta’ bejn l-4 u s-16-il sena dwar Malta, il-kultura u l-lingwa tagħha, filwaqt li introduċiethom ukoll għal xi kliem u espressjonijiet bil-Malti.

Fil-Kamra ta’ Malta, l-istudenti setgħu jipparteċipaw f’diversi attivitajiet edukattivi, fosthom logħba edukattiva tat-tombla, rokna ta’ kotba bil-Malti, kif ukoll kartolini bi kliem u espressjonijiet bil-Malti u tagħrif interessanti dwar pajjiżna.

Kien ta’ pjaċir ukoll niskopru li fost l-istudenti u l-għalliema kien hemm uħud ta’ dixxendenza Maltija.

Il-Konsulat Ġenerali jirringrazzja lill-International Grammar School tal-istedina u tal-opportunità li nippromwovu l-lingwa, il-kultura u l-wirt Malti.

For the second consecutive year, the Consulate General of Malta in Sydney participated in the International Day celebrations at the International Grammar School.

Throughout the day, the Consul General delivered presentations to groups of students aged 4 to 16 about Malta, its culture and language, while also introducing them to some basic Maltese words and expressions.

In the Malta room, students had the opportunity to take part in a variety of educational activities, including a Maltese-themed bingo game, a Maltese library corner, and flashcards featuring Maltese words and expressions, as well as interesting facts about our country.

It was wonderful to discover that some of the students and teachers were of Maltese descent.

The Consulate General thanks the International Grammar School for the invitation and the opportunity to promote the Maltese language, culture and heritage.
