It has been a busy week for 2A students.

Last Wednesday, we dressed in our house colours and attended the K-2 Sports Carnival at Waite Reserve. The fun-filled day promoted fitness, teamwork and school spirit, and developed social and athletic skills.

In Science, we explored the features of the night sky and learned that constellations are star patterns often named after mythological figures, animals, or objects they resemble. We then created our own constellations using toothpicks and mini-marshmallows, which looked as good as they tasted.

Fluency Reading in 1R

Fluency is reading expressively with accuracy at a good pace. Research shows that when students read fluently they are able to understand more of what they have read. There is a very strong correlation between reading fluency and reading comprehension.

As part of our literacy block, we work in 'Fluency Pairs', reading aloud to a partner several times a week. Partners take turns reading to each other and providing feedback and support. They do repeated reads of the same decodable passages, aiming to improve their pacing, accuracy, expression and intonation.

Some of the benefits of 'Fluency Pairs' instruction are:
Enhanced engagement
Increased reading time
Collaboration/peer support
Confidence building

Through engaging activities, stories, sounds and hands-on learning, our students have been building their literacy skills while having lots of fun along the way. 💕

This week we celebrate our wonderful SASS team. The people who work tirelessly behind the scenes and alongside our students and staff to help make QHEPS the amazing school community it is.

From our dedicated Office Staff, who keep the school running smoothly and are often the first friendly faces our families see, to our incredible SLSOs, who provide invaluable support, care and encouragement to our students every single day.

And our fantastic GAs, who work hard behind the scenes to keep our school grounds, facilities and environment safe, welcoming and looking their best. 🌿🔧

Our SASS team wear so many hats , problem solvers, organisers, supporters, helpers, listeners, fixers and so much more! They are always there to lend a hand, go the extra mile and help our school community in countless ways, often without anyone seeing all the work that happens behind the scenes.

Thank you for everything you do for our students, our staff and our families.

Your dedication, care, hard work and willingness to help never go unnoticed. QHEPS simply wouldn’t be the same without you!

We would also like to give a very special shout-out to one of our amazing QHEPS dads, Mr Moody, who put his hand up when we called for someone with a green thumb! 🌱👏

Mr Moody generously gave up his own time over the weekend to come in and help clean up our gardens, working alongside our wonderful GAs, David and Ruben, to get our school entrance looking fresh, tidy and welcoming just in time for Spring. 🌿✨

We are so grateful for the time, effort and care you have put into making our school look its best.

What a fabulous morning celebrating our amazing dads, grandads and special father figures at our Father’s Day Breakfast!

There were plenty of donuts, smiles, laughter and chats as our dads enjoyed some special time with their children. 🍩☕️

And of course, no QHEPS event would be complete without a few games! 🎉 A big thank you to Mr Gardner for getting everyone involved and keeping the laughs coming!🏈

A huge thank you to our fabulous staff members who volunteered to arrive early, helping with the set-up and making sure everything was ready to welcome our special guests. Your extra effort and enthusiasm helped make the morning such a success! 💙
