Yesterday while we were out Koala spotting, we came across a Red Belly Black Snake soaking up the winter warmth. Out came the cameras for some photos. Got my saftey shot and moved in closer to get a better photo. The Snake went to escape under the rock when i notice it had netting stuck around it. I tailed the Snake and put it in a pillow case which i always have in my backpack for this purpose. I rang Inga from WIRES and she came and took it.
This common for Snakes and other animals to get stuck in netting. Usually it is netting to protect the fruit trees from the birds but on this occasion it could of got stuck down at the creek as the Snake was nowhere near houses and very close to the creek. For those of you who haven't been along the creek bed behind Brisbane road and Camberra, the creek is littered with rubbish that gets washed from the streets into the creek. We had 2 cleanups there last year but the rubbish is back. The Snake will be treated and released when it gets the all clear.

got 3 stories in one day today. More about Molly the German Shepherd and the Red Belly Black another time. You might of seen me mention Rehan the Sri Lanklan or even met him along the track.
It was his last walk in Smith's Creek today as he is moving back to QLD next week. I met him a couple of years ago at a tree where Holly and her back rider Ivy. Him and Matthew has been here countless times and have gotten to know the Koalas and who is who. Usually when he is in the reserve, he will let me know where there is a Koala or 3 and i do the same for him. Today we spotted a Koala each. He spotted Florica and a couple of hours later i spotted what we think is Chrissy's Joey. after we parted ways i found Garry but he was already on the way home. He got an extra bonus today watching me catch a Red Belly Black Snake😁 Nice knowning you mate. Safe travells. Much more Koalas up there for you.

Yesterday while i was in the reserve, i got a call from Maria from Save Sydney's Koalas asking me if i could find a Koala for james from Oatley Flora and Fauna Conservation Society Also Councilor Peter Monhoney. They were at Fig Tree Hill checking out the fencing and the one underpass that has been completed.
i already found one just before she rang but i wasn't happy with showing this one as he or she was hidden and only could see the bum. i had some time up my sleave to find another one. While i was walking along the track, i heard the Noisy Minors and the Butcher Birds going crazy in a tree across the other side of the creek. it was so much that i had to investgate. i eventullay got there scrambling down to the creek and then up over the other side. i got to the Turpentine tree that the birds were concerned about. Before i found what was in the tree, i found Patch a couple of trees away. visible and in a fork. In a beautiful part of the reserve too. I rang James up and directed him to the fire trail and then took them off the track to see the Koala. We had a good chat about Fig Tree, Appin and Smith's Creek and how we are losing these vital wildlife corridoors.
