This is a great profile from our committee member Patrick Gifford!

Meet USU member Patrick Gifford. πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Patrick works for the Australian Society of Anaesthetists as a Senior Policy Administrator. He joined the USU in 2020 and is a part of the USU New Gen Committee.

See why Patrick became a member and why you should consider becoming one below.

"I became a member of the USU to ensure that I had quality representation of my interests in the workplace, and to help others in my workplace find that same quality representation in turn.

Ensuring that your rights in the workplace are protected and that your interests are properly represented is important, especially during turbulent times such as those we are experiencing now, during the pandemic. Joining the USU ensures that you will be able to come together collaboratively with other working people to advocate for fair and just treatment, no matter how difficult things become."

Not a member yet but have been thinking of joining? Call our support team on 1300 136 604, email us at [email protected] or join online at https://usu.org.au/join/

Well said Kirsty! - USU New Gen Committee Member

I am part of the Union because they help me feel secure. If I am unsure of my rights I know who to ask.

I’ve been provided with advice and support with workplace issues, improved work conditions. Also not me personally but I know of others who have benefited from journey cover to and from work.

Everyone should be in the union. The more collaborative power, the better negotiations can be.

We’re really proud of this one at City of Newcastle!

As a part of our 2019/20 Budget we will invest more than $2.5 million to fund 44 roles targeted at recent university graduates and undergraduates, aspiring trainees and apprentices.

As an emerging global City investing heavily in new technologies, we are putting a large focus on the recruitment of young people who can demonstrate the type of enthusiastic, innovative and creative qualities we require to help guide and lead our City’s future.

A big shout out to the United Services Union - USU for welcoming this news as a strong commitment to providing young Novocastrians with exciting career opportunities in local government.

Happy National TAFE Day!

Good morning and Happy National TAFE Day! National TAFE Day is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our national TAFE system, and a chance to remind politicians about the precarious state that the TAFE system is currently in across the country as a result of reforms, budget cuts, and the activities of private for-profit providers. In support of the Stop TAFE cuts campaign and in preparations for National TAFE Day on 19th June, which is a day to celebrate the achievements of our national TAFE system, and it provides a chance for us to remind politicians about the precarious state that the TAFE system is currently in across the country as a result of reforms, budget cuts, and the activities of private for-profit providers.
