Our mission: Safer food, clearer choices

The NSW Food Authority works with consumers, industry and government to minimise food poisoning and ensure food is correctly labelled. We provide information about and regulate safe food production, storage, transport, promotion and preparation. Our page is a hub of conversation about food safety and labelling. We welcome questions, opinions and c

omments from everyone, and ask for respectful conversations. Read our Facebook policy here, https://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/facebook-policy

Information on our pages can only ever be a general guide. It may not be suited to your particular situation and it is not legal advice. Complaints?
-------------
Complaints about food safety and food businesses involve a lot of details and Facebook is not the best place for this. To make a complaint about a retail food business, please call the local council for the area. Find your local council here, https://www.olg.nsw.gov.au/public/my-local-council/find-my-council

To complain about another type of food business, please call our helpline: 1300 552 406 (Monday to Friday, 8.30am-5.30pm, NSW time). Name and Shame lists?
--------------------------
We publish lists of businesses alleged to have breached NSW food safety laws on our website at www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/news/offences/

For legal reasons we ask that you don’t name and shame food businesses on this page. See our ‘complaints’ information at www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/industry/complaints-about-food-and-businesses/

🌷 Spring starts tomorrow - the perfect time for a fridge clean-out.
Check use by dates, throw out old or spoiled food, and wipe down shelves to keep your fridge fresh and organised.
Hack: Use food items with the shortest 'use by' or 'best before' date first to save money and waste.

The owner of Soul Gourmet in Lindfield was recently convicted for failing to maintain the food premises to the required standard of cleanliness. Ku-ring-gai Council issued the business owner a $660 penalty notice for the offence in October last year, and the owner elected to take it to court. In court in June, he pleaded guilty to the offence. The court imposed a $660 penalty and ordered the owner to pay $500 in council's legal costs. We’re loving this OzHarvest date mark campaign, inspired by research that shows Gen Z wastes 70% more household food than their parents and grandparents. 58% of food wasters cited date labels as a reason for throwing food away.
Remember:
• 'use by' means the food must be eaten or thrown away by the date.
• 'best before' means the food is still safe to eat after the date as long as it isn’t damaged.
