Our Audit Work Plan 2026–2029 is now available, setting out the priority areas and topics that we will focus on over the next three years.

These topics are reviewed annually to ensure that they are relevant to the priorities of government, to explore areas of risk, and to help NSW government agencies make optimal use of public funds.

We have focused the financial and performance audit programs around the following key themes:
• efficiency and optimal use of public resources
• grants administration
• infrastructure
• energy transition
• First Nations people.

The Audit Office marked NAIDOC Week last week with a special event highlighting how auditing can support better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The event featured insights from our First Nations performance audit team Carla Ware, Amy Winward and Jackson Spek on our First Nations audit program and the role of independent scrutiny in examining whether government commitments are delivering meaningful outcomes for communities.

Opened by Deputy Auditor-General Claudia Migotto, the discussion reflected on audits across the child protection and justice systems, and highlighted the importance of evidence, accountability, partnership and a willingness to challenge longstanding assumptions to drive lasting change.

Thank you to our presenters for sharing their expertise, for the important work they lead in this space, and for reminding us of the value of listening, learning and working together.

This year’s NAIDOC Week theme, ‘50 Years of Deadly’ is a celebration and a tribute to the First Nations people, Elders and leaders who have fought and continue to fight for better outcomes.

We're proud to share that our Annual Report 2024-25 has been jointly named Report of the Year at the recent Australasian reporting awards in Sydney. We also received the Best in Sector Award, the Special Governance Award, and a Gold Award for reporting excellence.

This achievement reflects the dedication of the annual report’s delivery team and the contribution of many staff from across the Audit Office. Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved in developing a transparent and accountable overview of our work during 2024-25. 👏
