Speaker: Mr Dave Grosvenor, MCIPS
Dave Grosvenor, MCIPS, is a procurement, commercial and supply chain executive with more than 25 years' experience across defence, government and infrastructure. A former Defence logistics professional, he managed the global distribution of Royal Australian Navy materiel during the First Gulf War and served as Liaison Officer at a US Navy facility in Philadelphia for four years. His contribution to naval logistics and operational support was recognised in 1995 with a Chief of Navy Commendation.

MCIPS: full membership status of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS).

Sovereign capability: a nation’s strategic ability to independently produce, maintain, and control essential goods, services, and infrastructure without critical reliance on foreign supply chains or external actors.

ENIGMA Machines, how they work - demonstration and explanation of a genuine WW2 ENIGMA cipher machine - and Modern Cyber Warfare
Speaker: Mr Mike Pritchard, Director Australian Spy Museum
The Enigma machine is a cipher device was employed extensively by N**i Germany during World War II, in all branches of the German military. The Enigma machine was considered so secure that it was used to encipher operation orders and the most top-secret messages. Mike will also speak on modern cyber warfare.

The Role of an Information Warfare Officer in the Royal Australian Navy
Speaker: LCDR Michael Baruch RAN, Maritime Intelligence & Information Warfare School, (MIIWS) HMAS Watson
Information warfare is the integrated employment of Navy’s information-based capabilities (communications, cyber, intelligence, networks, electronic warfare and imagery) to degrade, deny, deceive or destroy an enemy’s information environment or to enhance the effectiveness of friendly operations.

Silent Auction of rare and valuable books

The RUSI NSW Ursula Davidson Library is holding a silent auction of 111 rare and valuable books on 31 July 2026.

A catalogue of the books for auction, including details of the books, the condition of the books and indicative prices, can be viewed at:

The books for auction will be available for viewing and inspection in the Ursula Davidson Library Reading Room located in the Anzac Memorial, Hyde Park Sydney from Monday 27 July 2026.

Bidding will commence on 31 July 2026 from 9am and will conclude by 5pm. Access to the bid system is available via this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfeoCL_Ce5vEfyD6ZUeaBJhFTuRqxd-tz7Ox4eWmvU40pVlPQ/viewform

This link will take you to a bid form. Please complete a bid form for each book on which you are bidding. Successful bidders will be contacted during the following week via email. On being informed of a successful bid, payment should be made within seven days, using the payment facility on the RUSI NSW website.

All funds raised from the auction will be used to support the library’s efforts in book repair and the acquisition of new books.

Topic: The Defence Strategic Review 2026 Update

Speaker: Associate Professor Adam Lockyer, School of International Studies at Macquarie University

About the speaker: A/Prof. Lockyer has published widely on issues relating to Australian defence strategy, US defence and foreign policy, post-conflict reconstruction, governance and insurgency. His article titled "The Logic of Interoperability: Australia's Acquisition of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter" won the SAGE Award for the best international contribution to a Canadian academic journal in 2013. His article entitled "Evaluating Civil Development in Counterinsurgency Operations" won the prestigious Boyer Prize for best original article published in the Australian Journal of International Affairs in 2012. His forthcoming book is titled: Conventional Maritime Deterrence: The Operational Foundations of Influence at Sea (Georgetown University Press).
