A bold new legal drama, The Great White, is now in production in NSW.

Produced by See-Saw Films, the six-part series follows a disgraced barrister who, after being forced into a struggling suburban law office, takes on a dangerous dog case that builds to an audacious Supreme Court challenge.

Funny, provocative and deeply human, The Great White features a standout Australian cast led by Hugo Weaving and brings together a world-class creative team, including director Alyssa McClelland alongside Mia Wasikowska and Samantha Lang.

The Great White is currently filming in Sydney for the ABC with support from Screen NSW's Made in NSW - TV Drama Fund and PDV Rebate.

Submissions are now open for the Antenna Rough Cut Lab 2026.

Delivered by Antenna Documentary Film Festival and supported by Screen NSW, this intensive program connects Australian documentary teams at rough-cut stage with leading international mentors to refine their films and prepare for audiences worldwide.

This year’s mentor line-up includes Jenny Raskin (Impact Partners), Kirsten Johnson (Fahrenheit 911, Cameraperson, Dick Johnson Is Dead), and Simon Price (In My Blood It Runs, Martha: A Picture Story).

Expressions of Interest are now open for Crew Development Program Production Placements, connecting production companies with Screen NSW supported, paid Trainees.

As part of our inaugural Crew Development Program, which addresses industry skills gaps and supports a more representative workforce, these placements fast-track emerging and mid-career below-the-line practitioners into real on-set opportunities across Production Accounts, Locations, Production Management, Post-Production, and Art and Costume departments.

Western Sydney filmmaker Fadia Abboud has been announced as the recipient of the 2026 Sydney UNESCO City of Film Award.

With more than 20 years’ experience, Fadia has made a significant contribution to the local screen industry, working across acclaimed projects including Five Bedrooms, Here Out West, House of Gods and Four Years Later.

The award was presented by Screen NSW Executive Director Kylie Munnich at the Closing Night Gala of the 73rd Sydney Film Festival at the State Theatre last night.

Presented annually by Screen NSW under the auspice of Sydney UNESCO City of Film, the $10,000 cash prize recognises NSW‑based screen practitioners whose work demonstrates a high level of innovation, imagination and impact.

Gamers, are you ready to level up?

Applications are now open for the Gamescom 2026 Market Travel Program, supporting experienced NSW practitioners to attend Gamescom in Cologne from 26–30 August 2026.

As the world’s largest gaming event, Gamescom brings together everything from major releases and classic titles to tournaments, live presentations, hardware, cosplay, streams, shows and festival activations.

What a night – the Sydney Film Festival has officially kicked off its 73rd year!

Opening with the Australian premiere of Stranger Than Fiction’s Silenced was a standout moment, with the sold-out State Theatre audience delivering a resounding standing ovation. A huge congratulations to the filmmaking team and everyone involved!

Film festivals are an important part of the screen industry, connecting local and international stories with diverse audiences, showcasing work by both established and emerging filmmakers, and bringing people together who share a love of storytelling.

With more than 200 films on offer, alongside a full program of panels and workshops across Sydney until 14 June, there’s plenty to experience over the long weekend and in the days ahead.

Join us this month for our upcoming Power Lunch with Andy Ryan, Head of Scripted – Streaming and Broadcast, at Nine Entertainment.

Andy is responsible for the development and production of all scripted originals across Nine Entertainment including streaming service Stan., linear broadcast 9Network, and BVOD streaming service 9Now.

We’ll be covering how Nine Entertainment is navigating the evolving Australian screen market across Stan, Nine and 9Now including how platform strategy and audience demand are shaping their slate and what kinds of stories and formats are cutting through right now. We’ll also discuss what they’re looking for from creators, from the spark of an idea through to how projects are pitched, packaged, and commissioned.

This year’s program expands with increased investment, longer placements, and broader reach, creating more pathways for up-and-coming screen practitioners with disability and those who are d/Deaf to break into the industry.

Across leading organisations, five talented interns will gain hands-on experience, build networks, and develop career-ready skills. Host organisations will also benefit from fresh perspectives and increased accessibility insights.

A joyful new children’s series, Emma’s Dance Club, created by Emma Watkins, is now in production in NSW.

Made for ABC Kids and produced by Wooden Horse and Apricot Sea, the live action series follows a group of kids in a vibrant regional town as they discover friendship, community and the magic of dance, with plenty of fun along the way.

Emma’s Dance Club is filming in NSW with support from Screen NSW’s Made in NSW – TV Drama Fund, alongside the ABC, Screen Australia and the Australian Children’s Television Foundation.

The production brings together a talented Australian cast and crew, showcasing regional NSW and celebrating the state as a hub for vibrant, family-friendly storytelling.

Applications are now open for Screen NSW Market Travel Support, providing funding for NSW‑based screen practitioners to attend key industry events and build connections to support and finance their projects.

Current opportunities include travel support for MIFF 37ºSouth: Bridging the Gap (part of the MIFF 37ºSouth Market) in Melbourne from 6–9 August 2026, and the Australian Children’s Content Summit in Coffs Harbour from 24–27 August 2026.

Funding is available for a limited number of individuals or teams to attend these Screen NSW‑nominated events, which offer valuable opportunities to connect with screen industry professionals, buyers and partners.
