The Australian federal government is working on a new law that will make it illegal to charge more for products and services for clients on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The practice of charging more for the same product or service once it is known that a client is on the NDIS has been referred to as a twin pricing regime.

The Competition and Consumer Act in Australia already makes it illegal to engage in unconscionable conduct, but pursuing a case of this nature can be expensive and requires substantial evidence. NDIS Minister Bill Shorten has said that existing rules have failed to discourage the practice and that it should be illegal to have a twin pricing regime for the same product and service based purely on the fact that a client has an NDIS package.

Our Story

Our dream is that all people with various types and degrees of disability will have equal rights, which will protect them from abuse and neglect.

Creating Inclusion wants to make space for differences between people. Our mission is to increase awareness about real and current issues related to disability. We aim to safely express untold stories with the upmost respect to convey what it means to have a disability in Australia. We acknowledge the role and journey of family members throughout a person’s lifespan and seek to express their truths.

Creating Inclusion subscribes to a Social Model of Disability. ‘ The social model sees ‘disability’ is the result of the interaction between people living with impairments and an environment filled with physical, attitudinal, communication and social barriers. It therefore carries the implication that the physical, attitudinal, communication and social environment must change to enable people living with impairments to participate in society on an equal basis with others...

The social model seeks to change society in order to accommodate people living with impairment; it does not seek to change persons with impairment to accommodate society.
