Sydney Sexual Health Centre

Sydney Sexual Health Centre Sydney Sexual Health Centre (SSHC) is the oldest sexual health service in NSW, operating since 1933. You don't need a Medicare card to visit us.

We are a busy centre offering testing, treatment and management for sexually transmissible infections (STI) and HIV. If you think you might have been at risk for an STI or HIV, you can do our online risk assessment Am I OK? This will help us work out if we are the best place to meet your needs. We'll ask you a few questions about your recent sexual activity and at the end, we'll tell you what to d

o next. We primarily deliver services to people in some priority groups, so if you see yourself as belonging to any of these, then SSHC is the place for you. These priority groups include:

People living with HIV
Gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men
Sex workers
Aboriginal people
People who inject drugs
Young people

We run the Satellite clinic, a walk-in youth sexual health service on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, in partnership with headspace at Bondi Junction. We offer fast, free and confidential HIV and STI testing for gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men at a[TEST] Oxford Street and Surry Hills in partnership with ACON. We have sexual health specialist doctors, nurses, counsellors, health promotion officers, researchers and administrative staff. If you have a Medicare card and are happy to use it, please bring it with you, but you can still come if you don't have one. For more information, visit: https://www.sshc.org.au/

Last Friday, during HIV Testing Week, we officially launched the new HIV self-test vending machine at St George Hospital.

The machine is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, making it easier to access free, private and confidential HIV self-testing when it suits you.

To get a kit, all you need is a phone number or email address. You can do the test yourself and get a result in about 15 minutes.

This National Reconciliation Week, we reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and the role each of us can play in building a respectful and connected future.

The 2026 theme, All In, calls on all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation.

All in, in action: our Aboriginal programs are co-designed with community to increase awareness, promote prevention and testing, and improve access to care for s*xually transmitted infections and blood-borne viruses. Through this work, we aim to ensure education, support and resources are culturally safe and responsive to local needs.

On 17 May 1990, the World Health Organisation removed homos*xuality from the International Classification of Diseases.

36 years later, LGBTQIA+ communities continue to show strength, resilience and pride. But many people still face discrimination, stigma and barriers to care.

Our services are committed to supporting communities who may experience disadvantage or barriers to care, including LGBTQIA+ communities. We are here to provide respectful, inclusive and affirming care for everyone.

Happy International Nurses Day! May 12th marks the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing 🩺

This year’s theme, “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives”, reminds us of the vital role nurses play in building healthier communities.

On International Nurses Day, we recognise and are grateful for the diverse skills, compassion, resilience and dedication of S*xual Health and Blood Borne Virus sector nurses who care for people across our services every day.
