Against a stunning backdrop, we came together this week to celebrate 36 years of German Unity. 🥂🌆

A heartfelt thank you to the choir of the German International School Sydney for their moving performance of the German and Australian national anthems. 🎶🇩🇪🇦🇺

Above all, we would like to thank all our guests, partners, friends, and members of the German and Australian community, whose presence made this evening such a memorable occasion. Your friendship, engagement, and the many inspiring conversations made the celebration truly special. ✨

Vor einer beeindruckenden Kulisse haben wir diese Woche gemeinsam 36 Jahre deutsche Einheit gefeiert. 🥂🌆

Ein herzliches Dankeschön gilt dem Chor der German International School Sydney für die stimmungsvolle Darbietung der deutschen und australischen Nationalhymnen. 🎶🇩🇪🇦🇺

Vor allem aber danken wir allen Gästen, Partnern, Freunden und Mitgliedern der deutschen und australischen Gemeinschaft, die diesen Abend durch ihre Teilnahme zu einem unvergesslichen Ereignis gemacht haben. 🎗️ Germany will again serve on the UN Human Rights Council from 2027 onwards
Germany was already elected to the Council for 2023–2025 — a sign of the international community’s trust in Germany’s human rights engagement 🕊️

For us this is more than just news from New York. Human rights are the foundation of freedom, dignity and justice. Germany is committed to promoting and protecting human rights across the United Nations system, and supporting human rights defenders around the world remains a key priority of German foreign policy. Human Rights belong to all of us, regardless of nationality, culture or creed.

We also believe that human rights should be visible in people's everyday lives. Did you know that the Human Rights Logo originated from a German initiative? It was selected through a global competition that attracted more than 15,000 submissions from around the world. And among the members of the jury was none other than Navi Pillay, this year's Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

🎗️Deutschland wird ab 2027 wieder im VN-Menschenrechtsrat vertreten sein.

Bereits 2023 bis 2025 wurde Deutschland in den Rat gewählt – die Wiederwahl ist Ausdruck des Vertrauens der Staatengemeinschaft in unser Menschenrechtsengagement 🕊️

Für uns in Sydney ist das mehr als eine Nachricht aus New York. Menschenrechte sind Grundlage für Freiheit, Würde und Gerechtigkeit. Deutschland setzt sich in allen Gremien der Vereinten Nationen für Menschenrechte ein. Der Schutz von Menschenrechtsverteidigern weltweit ist eine Priorität deutscher Außenpolitik. Menschenrechte verbinden uns alle – unabhängig von Herkunft, Kultur oder Glauben.

Aber wir versuchen den Menschenrechten auch auf praktischem Wege Sichtbarkeit zu geben. Wussten Sie, dass die Schaffung des Menschenrechtslogos auf eine deutsche Initiative zurückgeht? Das Logo entstand im Rahmen eines internationalen Wettbewerbs, an dem sich mehr als 15.000 Menschen mit ihren Entwürfen beteiligten. Mitglied der Jury war übrigens auch Navi Pillay, die diesjährige Friedensnobelpreisträgerin.
