Recipe of the Week: Tuna Casserole 🐟🧀
A comforting, budget-friendly classic that’s quick to make and perfect for busy weeknights.
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
2 x 425g cans tuna in springwater, drained
2 cups pasta (penne or macaroni works well)
1 cup frozen peas
1 small onion, finely diced
2 cups milk
2 tbsp plain flour
2 tbsp butter
1 cup grated cheese
1 tsp mustard (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
½ cup breadcrumbs (optional topping)
Method:
Preheat oven to 180°C. Cook pasta according to packet instructions, adding peas in the last 2 minutes. Drain and set aside.
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft.
Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth and thickened.
Add cheese, mustard (if using), salt and pepper. Stir until melted.
Combine sauce, pasta, peas, and tuna in a baking dish. Mix gently.
Top with breadcrumbs and extra cheese if desired.
Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbling.
A simple, hearty dish that always delivers comfort on the plate.
