A year ago, 300,000 people marched for humanity across the Harbour Bridge.

Despite repeated attempts to ban or block protests like this from happening, it proceeded safely and peacefully.

One of the largest protest in Australia’s history demonstrated that Australians overwhelmingly support peace and justice for Palestinians.

We still have so much more to do but today we are proud to remember our support for this historic action

Thank you to NSW branches who continue to pass our motion on protecting Palestinian children.

Palestine is still firmly on the agenda for Labor’s rank and file. Branches continue to pass motions condemning violence against Palestinian children and calling on the Australian Government to hold Israel accountable.

At the National Conference held over the weekend, Ed Husic attempted to move a resolution on Palestine that was supported by Labor Friends of Palestine.

The resolution was prevented from reaching the floor for debate, but it is clear that Ed represented and supported the views of not just Labor Friends of Palestine but many Party members who want to see peace and justice for Palestinians.

Ed’s motion called on the Labor Party to acknowledge Australia’s obligations under international law, including international conventions on genocide, apartheid and war crimes.

More than this, his motion demanded concrete action to ensure that we are meeting these obligations and protecting the rights of the Palestinian people. These actions include:

The imposition of comprehensive trade sanctions on goods and services connected to illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories

Resourcing Australian agencies to investigate and prosecute dual nationals returning to Australia who are culpable for breaches of international humanitarian law, including those who have served in or materially supported the Israeli Defence Force.

An end to defence cooperation with Israel and the withdrawal of defence and trade representatives from Australia’s embassy in Tel Aviv.

The expedited establishment of full diplomatic ties with the State of Palestine, including the exchange of ambassadors.

As Ed said at the Conference, Labor Friends of Palestine will continue campaigning for peace and justice for Palestinians as the moral issue of our times.

LFOP joined today's protest to defend the right of healthcare workers to speak out on human rights and to advocate for their communities.

We share their concerns that APHRA's adoption of the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism will be used to further intimidate and silence clinicians who speak out against genocide.

We join them in calling for the immediate release of all Palestinian healthcare workers arbitrarily detained by Israel.

ALP members are disgusted by Israel's deliberate, targeted violence against Palestinian children as documented in a recent UN Commission report.

We urge the Australian Government to adopt the Commission's recommendations to ensure that Israel is held accountable for their grave breaches of international law and that Palestinian children are protected against future violence.

Thank you to Clovelly branch for passing our latest motion!
